| 305.1 | Report available for copying | QUARK::LIONEL | Ad Astra | Fri Nov 18 1988 13:38 | 13 |
| | For a limited time (that is, until I decide to delete it, but for
    at least a month or two), I've provided a copy of Linda Glover's
    report on the Stone Center Project that you can copy and read. I
    recommend it to everyone. It is about 25 pages.

    You can copy the file from:

    	QUARK""::QUARK_PUBLIC:STONE_CENTER_REPORT.TXT

    I'd also like to encourage discussion here of the Stone Center Project
    in the ways that it relates to men.

| 305.3 | "Report" written by Joyce Roop | QUARK::LIONEL | Ad Astra | Mon Nov 21 1988 14:29 | 6 |
| | A correction to 305.1 - the "report" was written by Joyce Roop, NOT
    by Linda Glover. My apologies to Joyce for the mistake in
    attribution. She should receive full credit for a very powerful
    and moving text.

| 305.4 | I hope | GEMVAX::DIXON |  | Tue Nov 29 1988 16:36 | 24 |
|  |     Hi Steve,

    I just got finished reading the report. Am I mistaken or is
    the Spit Brook facility actually going to administer these
    procedures? WOW!!! Wouldn't that be something! I am active
    in the Parenting notesfile (see note 786), and would benefit
    greatly from the implementation of these policies at my facility.

    One aspect that I thought was interesting, at least in the way
    in which they approached the issue. It mentioned the effect on
    male Dec employees as the percentage of females in the workforce
    increases. It kinda took a back door approach in that, many think
    that the lack of certain services (i.e. on-site daycare, part-time
    hours, jobsharing) would be detrimental to just the female. But
    the group recognozed that it is also detrimental to males; as the
    number of females entering the workforce _increases_ the number
    of females that stay at home (taking care of the family and all
    of its related issues) _decreases_, therefore more will be expected
    of male employees in the way of childcare; expectations that haven't
    been givin enough 'press'.

    All in all, I'm excited and encouraged by the report!

| 305.5 | Who knows? | QUARK::LIONEL | Ad Astra | Tue Nov 29 1988 19:26 | 12 |
| | Well, I certainly hope so, Dorothy. Bill Heffner does set the policies
    for what happens at Spit Brook, so if he accepts the recommendations,
    there will be changes. I hope to know more after I attend the
    presentation on the 8th.

    I also agree that many of the proposed changes will benefit men as
    well as women.

    However, I am told that there is great resistance among various levels
    of management, including women managers. Time will tell....

I'm really excited about the Stone Center project. I am especially
impressed with the recommendation that Valuing Differences work be
rewarded more than it currently is. I think that would set a great
precident.

| 305.8 | Task force report no longer online | QUARK::LIONEL | Ad Astra | Thu Dec 08 1988 09:49 | 9 |
| | I have been informed that Linda Glover, Stone Center Task Force project leader,
has asked that copies of the task force report not be made available except
by request to her. So I have removed the copy that I announced here
earlier. If you would like a copy of the task force report, please send your
request to Linda Glover at UCOUNT::GLOVER.
The "event report" by Joyce Roop, described in 305.1, is still available.

    I suggest you contact Ms. Glover and ask her yourself. I haven't yet
    gotten a direct explanation from her. However, it is not my place
    to second-guess the document's authors.
