    Eau de Lee?  How 'bout some store-bought goodies, huh?

 The only cologne I know of which both smells and tastes good is l'eau de SO.

 The other smells I liked tasted bad, so why wear it?

    Anyway, I don't use colognes, but I use after-shaves occasionally.
    In high school (Eng - 6th form) I used Hai Karate because, like
    many boys, I was convinced by the commercials that I would have
    to fight off the girls.  Well, it may have worked on a couple of
    girls, but not as well as I had hoped.  I also tried Jade East,
    which competed with Hai Karate.
    
    Over the years, I have tried several commercial brands (I guess
    you really asked about 'the finer scents', huh?) and now I use 
    Old Spice Lime.  My wife always has finally approval.  
    
    I still have a half bottle of Hai Karate that I bought in 1966.
    Do you suppose its a collector's item? 8-)

    Ok, this is a woman's opinion.
    
    My personal favorites are Tabac and English Lime.  There is also
    a french men's cologne called Zizane (spelling?) that Ilike a great
    deal but many men seem to think it is too Europen.  I think that
    means it is obvious rather than subtle.  But I like it.  A lot.
    
    I hate stuff like Jade East and Chaps.

    	When I was in college I use to wear 'Old Spice'.  Then I was
    on a date and the girl sniffed and commented that it was the same scent
    that her dad wore.  I've never used any stuff since.  I've got 5-6
    bottles of various smells on the top shelf of my closet if someone
    wants to make an offer.
    	I do not like the idea of cologne or perfume.  As long as a person
    has bathed recently there is no reason to muck things up with fruit
    and musk smells.  I guess I just have a bad attitude with artificial
    scents.  When I was in high school I was the only male in an English
    class of 15.  The combined smell of all those girls wearing 'Charlie'
    and 'Love Baby Soft' use to make me physically ill.

    I agree, Humans smell much better than any perfume, aftershave,
    etc...

    I am very sensitive to overpowering fragrances - such that I cannot
    enter many stores that feature scented candles, incense or
    potpourri - even standing outside such a store can be difficult.
    
    However, I have found that in small doses, a little added scent
    does make for a nice effect, especially up close.
    
    I've been using British Sterling for years since it was given to
    me as a gift once - I have tried many other brands and most of them
    I find unpleasant.  I only use the after shave, so I suppose the
    scent wears off pretty quickly anyway.

	wear English Leather, or they wear nothing at all". Never

    I'll throw in my preferences...but please realize that every fragance
    reacts differently on each individual. These fragrances while
    wonderful on some (hence some of my sweetest memories :-) ) might 
    be wretched on others:
    
    Kouros - YSL  (male counterpart to Opium)
    Monsieur - Givenchy
    Halston Z-14 - Halston      
    Paco Rabanne

I think a good rule for cologne and perfume is "Don't put it anywhere you
don't want somebody to taste!"

I think Aramis smells like medicine.  I prefer good ol' Bay Rum.  I also have a
bottle of Brazil I use only once a year (Christmas).  It is about 20 years old
and still going strong.

    I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT MY FAVORITE IS "POLO", IT IS A GREAT
    DAY OR EVENING AFTERSHAVE.   ROYAL COPENHAGEN IS ALSO A GOOD
    ONE, ALTHOUGH IT IS DEFINATELY AN EVENING AFTERSHAVE.  I HAD
    BOUGHT MY HUSBAND A "GIFT COLLECTION" SAMPLE OF AFTERHAVES FOR
    CHRISTMAS, IT HAD POLO, GUICCI, PACO AND ONE OTHER I CAN'T REALLY
    REMEMBER... I PREFERRED THE POLO OUT OF ALL OF THEM, BUT THE
    OTHERS WEREN'T BAD.  I THINK POLO HAS A CLEAN FRESH FRAGRANCE.
    HOWEVER, THE BEST WAY I FOUND TO PICK OUT AN AFTERSHAVE IS TO
    SMELL IT ON SOMEONE ELSE FIRST AND THEN BUY IT, TESTING AFTERSHAVES
    STRAIGHT FROM THE BOTTLE CAN BE A "STOMACH SICKENING" EXPERIENCE
    AS WELL AS "ACHOO".
    
    I WOULD HAVE TO AGREE THAT THE BEST SCENT IS WHEN MY HUSBAND
    FIRST GETS OUT OF THE SHOWER, A FRESH CLEAN SOAP SMELL!
    
    

    My number one choice has to be POLO, with HALSTON Z-14 next.  Also,
    I like Armamis and Armani as well.

    	As Ann said, some peoples chemistry (ie: sweat) reacts differently
    with certain colognes. I have been told by many women friends that
    when I wear Halston Z-14, it smells "different" than on someone
    else.
    
    	Someone I dated told me (she was the ONLY one BTW) that she
    didn't like Halston Z-14 and thought I should try Paco. I tried
    some on in the store and didn't like it at all.. I ended up buying
    another bottle of Halston.  Needless to say, that person and I don't
    date anymore.. :-)  (Ok, there were other reasons too.. :-))

    have to buy it myself - i also tired that Eau de Cologene and liked
    it, it was a gift of course.  After shave and colone may be the

    myself, having sensitive skin....   I have to be careful of aftershaves
    and deodorants.  No one has mentioned  AFTA (picture a bunch of
    women [ by mennen!] ) It's a lotion and the only thing that doesn't
    make my face break out after shaving...   on the weekends I wash
    off and go NAKED (no aftershave).

    Has anyone tried Pierre Cardin.......it's my favorite!

    I replenish my Paco Rabanne only about one every eight months,
    which shows how little I use it.  I recently ran out and
    took the opportunity to have a sniff of what else was on
    offer in a perfumery,  when they didn't have any (call
    that a perfumery?) and I didn't like any of the other
    smells,  I had to go looking elsewhere until I found some P.R.

    But I use it so sparingly also because (doing as I
    would be done by)  I find nothing more
    off-putting on a woman than a level of perfume that
    hides the natural smell of the skin.  It just makes
    me want to run away.
    
    And as a different and extreme case,  I used to walk
    a dramatic distance out of my way to and from lunch
    in a DEC building in a country in Europe to avoid
    Christian Dior "Poison" fall-out.  I often find my
    nostrils cauterised in the street for five minutes
    just because someone walked that way some time before
    wearing it.

    definitley NOT something I want to mess with.
    
    This was recommended to me by an "ex" on our first date, that Z-14
    always melted her insides and made her want to make rip-roaring,
    all-out, no-holds-barred, passionate love-making to Ted Nugents
    "Wango Tango" cranked to a zillion decibels!  Needless to say,
    I was a well-stocked Z-14 man, and a devoted fan to at least "one"

    I didn't have time to scan this file but the one cologne that I
    can recognize and really pumps my blood is Polo.  I know that it
    is popular around here because some men bathe in it (yuk). I like
    it when the aroma is soft and subtle and well, I have to get REAL
    close to fully enjoy it.  Oh, I also LOVE trying to find where he
    puts it.  Hmmm, is the weekend here yet?

	Yes Oedipe is Oedipus - it seems that the French language has
	a list of translations of proper names.  Personally
	I disapprove of this but there it is.  Others include
	"Pythagore" for Pythagorus and "Beethove" for Beethoven.  (BAH! Just coz
	the majority have the arrogance not to recognise the validity of 
	languages other than French!)  I gave up trying to stop them calling
	me "Monsieur Clangsh"!

    My all time favourite Cologne is the Veritable EAU de COLOGNE
    "Imperiale" EXTRA DRY by Guerlain.  It was formulated for Napoleon, so
    I figure it's good enough for me.  It has sort of a lemon smell.  They
    also make a version that is not "Extra Dry" and it has subtle
    difference in fragrance, but is not as good as the Extra Dry.  I
    cannot get it around here, but have a source in Philadelphia (John
    Wanamaker).
    
    I have also been known to use "Wild Country" by Avon.  I was given
    a bottle about 20 years ago that I still have, and go through a
    two ounce bottle of "Imperiale" in about 2.5 years.
    
    "Imperiale" also kinda' reminds me of GIN.  Maybe that's why I like
    it! :-)

    is).  It comes in a dark blue glass bottle with the top part silver.

    It's not to strong or flowery.  Smells just right.

    	A really good friend of mine wears only Kouros, and does
    he smell good!  I think that's one of the reasons our friendship
    became something more.  Things aren't as close as they used to
    be, but we are still friends.  But when I read .38, I almost
    melted in my chair at the thought of that cologne.  It definitely
    gets a woman's attention!

    years but through boredom,  finding something that I liked better
    or their disappearance from the market, I keep changing.  Maybe
    my body chemistry is changing too....  hmmm.  It's bad to get old...

    Alot of the scents around today smell great on certain people. I'll
    have to aree with the majority, and go with Kouros. That stuff smells
    excellent! Of course Polo and Paco are right up there also. I also
    think that cologne (and perfume) smell the best about an hour or
    two after you put it on and it has a chance to blend in with your
    own smell. I also agree with one of the other replys (I don't remember
    which one), cologne (and perfume) smell good when you're very close
    to somebody. For example, an intimate moment. Try it and you'll
    see!!

    Paco Rabanne, that stuff is great....nothing else, just Paco!

    I wore Drakkar Noir for a while, but I had enough women tell me
    it was awful that I switched to something else.  I've also tried
    Aramis, but it's dull.
    
    Currently, I have both Polo and Azarro (or is it Azzaro?), and I'll
    pick one or the other on a given day as the mood suits me.  Both
    get a good reaction from a certain lady, though the Polo seems to
    be her favorite.

    I tend to sneeze at a lot of heavy perfumes, but one I really
    find sexy is Lagerfeld.  So I bought it for my husband for
    Christmas but he doesn't wear it much cause it makes him
    sneeze.

Well, the last two times women asked me what I was wearing, it was Drakkar
Noir and Quorum. Personal favorites include Kouros, 3rd Homme du Caron,

    Back to the topic (sort of), I've heard of a cologne that contains
    human male pheremones--the sexual attractant scents. Anyone ever
    try them? I'd imagine that to a guy, they'd probably smell like
    essence of old mildew or something, but a woman's reaction might
    be different (?).

    more efficiently, and DO work on humans.  Of course, I might be

    Let me see if I've got this right . 
    
    To 'attract' a male , you are considering using natures lubrication
    as a form of perfume . I am assuming it will be placed in the usual
    places ie neck , wrists , behind the ears etc . I am also assuming
    that at various stages during the day/evening it must be re-applied
    just as usual perfume . Given that a bottle of the stuff is probably
    not such a good idea , you will need fresh supplies only when needed
    requiring a certain amount of 'juice' inducement .
    
    There are two additional benefits to this -
    
    1. You will not need to apply colouring to your cheeks .
    2. Even if the men aren't attracted to the scent , you should at
       least have a happy time .

    actually, the masculine scent I like most is generally the one the guy
    I like smells like naturally.  It's really comforting.  It's really
    "them".  It's always around them - in their hair - in their clothes -
    in their sheets ;-), in their room.  And (unfortunately) I am allergic
    to perfumes and colognes.  Bouts of wheezing and sneezing can really
    cut short a pleasant evening - so it's Mr. Natural for me.

    I know what you mean. Most colognes and perfumes give me a serious
    headache. However, I *love* the natural smell of a person. I generally
    get a bit of a 'sniff' when I hug my kids or my husband.

    to my side of the bed. When i asked her why, she replied, "It's
    warm and I can smell you on your pillow and feel you in the sheets.
    It's a warm, secure feeling."  
    	I have lost most of my sense of smell so I can't know what she
    means, but I can remember that as a child, my parents bed had a

    	I love to be able to still smell my man after he's gone, whether
    	the scent is on my hands, body, clothes, sheets, or his clothes 
    	that were inadvertently left behind.  Providing, of course, that
    	I liked how he smelled!  (Honestly, most men who bathe regularly
    	and shun sweet, cheap colognes smell good.)
    
    	I was with someone who always wore a certain cologne, one that
    	can only be purchased in exclusive shops--consequently I never
    	have smelled it on another man and love to see him sometimes,
    	if only to fulfill an olfactory yearning.  I associate so many
    	things with smell, just as some of us also use songs as memory
    	jolters.
    
    	Scent is a romantic lingering memory that can be enjoyed until 
    	soap (or time) launches the aromatized reminiscence to another 
    	galaxy.

    	When my son was about 6-9 months old (a few years back) he'd
    scream and carry on. An elderly lady told my wife to wear the same
    nylon or silk nightie for two or three nights in a row without washing
    it. She told her to then put it in the crib for the baby to lie
    on and the crying would stop because the baby would feel secure
    because he could smell his mother. .....  it worked.  There's a
    lot more to smell than we give credit for.

    The sad part about this Sherry is that some people are very immature.
    Extracting and printing NOTESFILES got the ::SEXCETERTA file shut
    down a couple of years ago. Other files I have belonged to have
    become "members only" because of the ext/print problem. I enjoyed
    your input and realized you were having a good time.....it's too
    bad that you had to feel compelled to hide the notes.

    Let me contribute my two scents worth to this ......
    
    When I was younger, I was only given BRUT and thought that that
    was THE smell. Frankly, didn't really like it then. 
    
    Canada have taught me more things than just education, books that
    is. Studying there helped me discovered a variety of fragrances
    and I actually used 1 differenet fragrance everyday of the week,
    experimenting, one may claim.
    
    Back in good old Malaysia, where it is hot and humid, I discovered
    that the following is the most suitable, for my body chemistry.
    I believe not every perfume smell the same on different people.
    
    They are :- in order of priority
    
    Halston Z-14
    Drakkar Noir
    Polo
    Eau Sauvage by Dior
    
    Personnaly, I like the musky scent, so does my mateS.

    "Opium" perfume on ladies?
    
    I received some "unsolicited feedback" about this recently and I'd
    like to know if anyone else holds strong views on this scent.....

	Opium is one of our favorites - I generally prefer somewhat
	exotic, spicy scents and Opium fits the bill.  It has a certain
	warmth that is subtle and very attractive - tends to make me want
	to take another sniff.

    Opium ? Who can afford that ? DO you realize what they charge for
    a 64 oz bottle ?

    Well, my SO likes it a lot, so twice a year i get her some. (instead
    of going to the Bahamas for two weeks).
    
    I prefer (for men) Vevitar, but have been unable to locate a source.
    I'm trying some stuff i got at Jordans (not the furniture store) that I
    really don't care lot for (can't remember the name. similar to a ladies
    perfume scent. same name, almost, too). 

    What I learned about the "better quality" scents, is the amazing
    staying power, even while sweating up a storm dancing !!    
    
    (my first choice is no chemically applied scents, for men or women.
    But, in the world od business, the more "unique" people  who want
    to go against the 'norm' of business, soon find themselves in ratty
    situations from which quitting os the only way out. If you can't
    lick 'em, you gotta go along with them!) [or something like that]

    Last Autumn, on a trip to Europe, I bought my SO some aftershave
    in the duty-free section. It was by Paco Rabane, and called "Tenure"...
    black and scarlet packaging....
    
    We both fell passionately in lust with this scent!
    
    He ran out in about March, so I tried to find some more in the UK.
    Apparently it won't be launched here until next winter!
                                                      
    Has anyone else come across this aftershave?

    The masculine scent I like best is the one the man has naturally
    (and yes, everybody smells different - and when you're wrapped up
    in his arms it's so *comforting*).....
    
    Of course, the fact that I'm allergic to perfume and cologne and
    other fragrances may have something to do with this.....

...but the scent doesn't age well, if you know what I mean.  1-day 
vintage is perfect.

    A theory that I've read is that women's scents on men work remarkably
    well on the women and visa versa. 
    
    Men should wear something like "Chanel #5". Very little, very light.
    The reason that most men and women wear a fragrance is because it
    smells good to them. I wonder what a woman would smell like wearing

    Really clean and refreshing scent.  Not yet sold in New England.  Found
    this product in Atlanta at Riches and Macy's as well as in San
