| | There are post-SP2 fixes for Service Pack 2. Fetch them from the
standard Microsoft distribution point. (The kernel patch is what
    you're looking for.)

\\PREFAB\40USSP2\HOTFIXES-POSTSP2 has most of them, too.

SP2 + floppy crashes is a symptom of a virus checker installed.
One fix is to manually start the virus checker after booting.

| | I found a SP2_400I.EXE dated 01/18/97 at ftp.microsoft.com.

Is this what I'm looking for?

    Thanks.

| | re .3

Found the hot fixes mentioned in .1. It's all how I looked for
it from www.microsoft.com/ntwkssupport. If I did the Windows NT 4.0
Service Pack 2 that's all I got. If I did the Help Files, Service
Packs and Other Files I got it.

    re .2

Could be. I just had the newest version of the IBM Anti-Virus
installed. IBM because it's a government customer site and that's
    their choice.

Should I still consider the hot fix in .1?

| | I think the magazine said the hot fix was another way of fixing the
    virus/floppy interaction.

| 5818.7 | Still have the problem | CHOWDA::GLICKMAN | writing from Newport,RI | Thu Mar 20 1997 09:58 | 24 |
| | I still seem to have the problem. I have been trying to get details
of the crash but haven't had much luck. The blue screen goes by
way too fast to collect any info from it. I just tried the dumpexam
    with the following syntax:

    dumpexam -y c:\zip\ntsp2\symbol;d:\support\debug\i386 -f
    c:\temp\memory.txt c:\windows:memory.dmp

This gave me a Warning: Checksum mismatch for at least ten lines
for the Symbol File Load Log portion. I am running Windows NT 4.0
Service Pack 2 with that hotfix I just added. Did I do something
wrong with above command or not have everything I need to get good
information out of this file? I didn't see anything of particular
value in the memory.txt. Would there be some other information in
    here of value?

The message in the Event Detail was a bugcheck: 0x0000000a
    (0x00000206,0x0000002,0x00000000,0x00000206).

I just wanted the STOP message.

    Anything else to consider??

    Thanks.

| | From what I've heard, SP2 creates more problems than it solves.
You may need to go back to NT+SP1 only.

| | When SP2 first came out it was horribly broken. Microsoft claimed it
was a "packaging error" (a corrupted compressed file). At any rate,
the current SP2 at www.microsoft.com and on the March (and later)
Technet CDs has been fine for me, at least on Intel single and dual
    CPUs. YMMV
