5694.0. "Master Boot Record corrupted ? help needed" by LEMAN::GABLER () Thu Feb 13 1997 10:23
	Hi,
I have defined the following partitions on a PWS 200i and i can't manage to
have my Master Boot Record to work properly.
My configuration is as follow :
C (FAT) 400Mb						on IDE disk 400Mb
D (FAT) 800Mb    E (NTFS) 500Mb    F (...) 700Mb	on SCSI disk 2GB
C will be used for Windows 95
D will be used to share data
E will be used fow Windows NT
F is reserved for installing Linux later on.
I configured the things as follow :
1) I installed W95 on C -- OK -- boot block on C is OK !
2) I installed WINNT on E -- When the installation is nearly done and it
   ask for rebooting without the startup floppies, the following message
   appear at the beginning of the boot :
	BOOT: I/O Error reading disk
	Please insert another disk
Hopfully i had a floopy with a multiple boot.ini and i can boot either
Win95 or NT without problems, but i'd like to have that feature without
using a floppy.
I tried the WIN NT repair disk, i tried Flexboot and correct.exe but none
of them corrected my problem. I tried to reinstall everything after
reformatting both disks (event a low lovel scsi format) but the same symptom
reappear at the same point.
So, first of all, is that configuration valid ?
How can i correct this ?
Does anyone know the correct format of the Master boot record, the boot sector
and the partition table ?
Thanks for help.

| | Chapter 17 of the NT Workstation Resource Kit has documentation of the
    MBR format. The RK includes a CD containing the DiskProbe
    utility, which can display boot records and partition records in
    a readily understood format.
