5642.0. "Minimize network loading with 2 network cards." by OSL09::dhcp160.tdo.dec.com::Dahlen (Yet another day with MS-problems...) Tue Feb 04 1997 15:42
Configuration question about multihomed workstation.
The system is an NT workstation with 2 network adapters each
having its own IP address. The workstation is able to send out
information using Microsoft Peer Web Services (web and ftp services),
collect information from external URLs using purpose written
java applications (converted to native binary and running as NT
services), collect and distribute information LanManager style
using both TCP/IP and Netbeui.
In order to minimize network loading, it is desirable to ensure
that the different kinds of data transfer are performed through
different network adapters. Netbeui can be restriced to only one
adapter via the bindings tab in the network app of control panel.
In principle, the local nameserver can influence which address is
given to potential clients of the web and ftp services. However it
is still desirable to be able to control which services use which
adapter in the local configuration.
