| | Yes, there are OpenVMS system management tools that run on Windows
NT systems allowing GUI controllability and observability of multiple
OpenVMS nodes. These tools are part of the VMS to WNT migration pro-
gram. I do not know if these tools are free. I'd recommend checking
the VMSNOTES conference and look for the migration program manager(s).
I believe there is one or more web sites that address the migration
    topic, too.

| | You appear to have gotten serveral, at least partial answers. I'm not
sure that any of them really point you to everything you're looking
    for.

The answer is YES. There are several major tools in this area. I'd
suggest especially, looking at the external OpenVMS Web Page:

     http://www.openvms.digital.com/

In fact, point your customer here. From here, he can down load OMT V3,
and find various other pointers. Look especially at the "Affinity"
topic, which discusses the OpenVMS/NT Affinity project.

    *******************************************************************

We are pleased to announce the formation of the Windows NT and
OpenVMS Systems Group. This new organization will:

    	- Build and market a comprehensive Windows NT systems environment
           for large and small enterprises.

        - Continue to develop and market the OpenVMS systems environment.

      	- Develop and market the Affinity application architecture which
integrates Windows NT and OpenVMS platforms in a three-tier
           client/server model.

The Windows NT and OpenVMS Systems Group will be led by Wes Melling,
reporting to both Howard Elias (PCBU) and Jesse Lipcon (SBU). The new
group will include three business segments -- Windows NT Systems
Software, OpenVMS Systems Software and Commercial Software Products.
It will also include the Installed Base Initiative. The attachment
provides greater detail on these groups.

The Windows NT Systems Software Segment will remain in the PCBU, the
OpenVMS Systems Software Segment and the Commercial Software Products
Segment will remain in the SBU, and the combined organization will span
    both business units.

We have several goals in creating this group. First, we're able to
maximize the talents of engineers and marketing managers who are
experts in mission-critical, enterprise-class applications. Second,
we're increasing the differentiation and profitability of our Windows
NT products by adding layered software -- both DIGITAL-developed and
partner-sourced. Our enterprise customers will then enjoy the kind of
complete and robust environment they expect with MVS and VMS. Third,
we'll strengthen our marketing to large enterprises by taking better
    advantage of:

    	- Our strong relationships with our existing customer base,

        - The acknowledged preference of VMS users for WNT as a
supplementary and emerging primary operating system,

    	- The groundwork already laid by the marketing of Affinity.

This new organization strengthens our commitment to enterprise Windows
NT, one of DIGITAL's three critical growth opportunities. It also
reaffirms the staying power of OpenVMS and the success of the Affinity
program, and recognizes the strategic alignment of the two operating
    systems.

Please give Wes and his teams your complete support.

Windows NT and OpenVMS Systems Group -- Wes Melling

    	- The Windows NT Systems Software Segment will provide Windows NT
platform and architecture leadership for DIGITAL's Alpha and
Intel platforms. Responsibilities include the maintenance of
performance leadership, stewardship of the product and technical
relationship with Microsoft, product management and product
marketing for Windows NT software products and layered software
           products.

    	- The OpenVMS Systems Software Segment will continue to engineer
and market the base OpenVMS operating system, Windows NT
integration tools, Pathworks and TCP/IP Version 6. This segment
also ships complete solution sets for continuous computing and
           data warehousing.

    	- The Commercial Software Products Segment will continue to
support and enhance its cross-platform portfolio of application
development tools, messaging products and transactional
facilities. This segment will add a major focus on both the
development and acquisition of a comprehensive enterprise-class
software environment for Windows NT and on the integration of
software partner products that completing that environment.

    	- The Installed Base Initiative already plays a major role in the
marketing of OpenVMS systems, and it will now become a major
conduit for marketing Windows NT enterprise systems to our
           installed base.
