The meaning of the poem becomes clear when you complete it's
implicate structure (whew!) -
...anything with nothing except ourselves!
It's easy to pass that critical "something" by!

I used to be a computer operator. I kept this version of the
poem posted in a conspicuous place so that the user's would
be sure to see it.
