       	My idea of vacation?  Being away from everything. I know I've
       had a good vacation when:
       
       	1. I'm more tired than before I left. (I like to do physical
       things.. Skiing, etc...)
       
       	2. I forget everything that I thought I'd remember before I
       	left
       
       	3. The world is turned upside-down when I get back and all
       I can do is giggle and show pictures of my vacation.. (The ones
       the photo shop will print that is.. :-))
       
       	4. I'm tanned.  Somewhere on my body.

    I agree with Mike. I like to come back more tired. It assures me
    that I wasn't bored. 
    
    My perfect vacation would be in the sun, but not the beach. I'd
    perfer the slopes! Skiing is it for me! With lots of powder!! Skiing
    so hard you hurt everywhere, but at the same time, it feels good.
    Perhaps in a foreign country so that I could visit different cultures at 
    the same time. I went to Austria a couple of years ago, it was almost 
    perfect. A few minor details were missing. But overall it was what
    I would call a 'perfect vacation'. 

    I'm going to the Bahama's in April, I'm looking forward to the time
    off, but it won't be the same... on the beach, getting toasted (I'm
    fair skinned), I'm looking forward to the biking and the Hobie Cats
    though...and being with friends.

    Perfect Vacation:
    
    Not caring what time it is, what I look like, what has to be done
    that day...
    
    Laying on the beach listening to the ocean and birds....Having no
    television, terminal, or even radio around...
    
    Not worrying about money, getting things done, or pleasing anyone.
    
    Having time stand still and not thinking about anything at home.

    I just came back from vactioning in Florida.  And, it was just like
    I described.  Not a care in the world.  I didn't even think about
    the job offer that was probably coming through while I was gone.
    And it made it easier coming back refreshed (not wanting to be at
    work) a little out of it, tired, but with an exciting new job!

I think I was in the lounge chair next to .8, but I couldn't snap, my hands
were busy holding on to a big pina coloda. 

    Vacaton?? Can't remember having one.. I do want to go some where
    some day. My biggest pipe dream is to have an old Corvette and get
    my kicks on Route 66. This will tell the age on some of us who can
    remember this old program. I would like to travel this old highway
    with my wife someday before it is all gone. Just some jingle in
    the pocket and our worldly posesions on a tiedown on the trunk.
    I came real close to this as a reality in the earlie 80's. Wished
    I had done it then. Trivia question: Who wrote and preformed the
    the theme song to this show....
    
    Yes, I too would like an island to excape to.. It seems that we
    see much of any place but our own back yards...

    Sorry to disappoint you, but you can no longer have your kicks on
    route 66 - there is no longer a US 66 - it's been completely absorbed
    in other highways.

    I saw this in an issue of an old motorcycle mag. I started to remember
    the old show, then I saw the show and remembered old feelings. I
    came close to actually performing the actual act of selling out
    everything and going into the car. Got cold feet and stopped when
    I was shopping for the car. I still would like to maybe take a month
    off to see it all. Yes, allot of the highway is gone but there is
    folks who live along this part of America with the art of Americana
    that I would like to see as we once were. 
    
    I have a friend who has an old '38' flat head V-8 Ford woody and
    we have taken a walk back into time in this time machine. The car
    has a tapedeck under the frount seat with a big box of old radio
    show tapes. We just go out for a sunday news paper and it takes
    about 3 hours to drive 20 mins round trip. By the time we reach
    home I swear it the year is 1940 something. 
    
    Bottom line, vacations are times of mental excape. As I have said
    one does not have to go far to excape. Sometimes across town or
    what ever. It is fun to excape in what ever healthy way one can.
    Some folks get a charge on a warm beach. I would like to get my
    kicks on 'Route 66'....

    There is a loop of old 66 left between Barstow and Needles, Ca.
    It connects the bustling metropoli of Baghdad and Amboy to the
    Interstate (40)... this is in the Mojave in the depths of San
    Bernardino Co. Do take water and spares; I think Baghdad is 
    noted for its tortoise races (or was it Amboy?).

    Vacation = Meeting a gorgeous, green-eyed, olive skinned redhead
               on a warm summer evening and spending the following
               weekend completely secluded from everything, taking
               heavens sweet time exploring every inch of her.
    
    Memorable vacation = Looking back on that weekend, content that
                         that was the first of many more, for now you're
                         married to her, forever.

    I usually don't have vacations, I have occasional days off.  These
    I spend doing what I want to do, not what I have to do.  Usually
    that means sleeping late, then reading in bed, then getting up and
    reading some more.
    
    I'd have to spend a few days off before I was ready to have a vacation
    in terms of going places and doing things.  I'd probably explore
    museums and interesting places.

    
    To me it means packing my panniers with my camping stuff, loading
    the panniers on my bike, and heading for Big Sur...
    
    Or, if its just a day or two during the week, taking the sailboat
    down to Santa Cruz or up to Redwood City, and do a little 
    tackin' and jibin'

While I am sure there are other types of vacations, mine have usually been
of the "post-combat leave" variety...

It usually means a place (usually relatively unusual, usually an island) where
I can veg out - just drink beer and tan, swim and sleep.

And I don't even think of &*%@!# computers until I'm back at work...

    Just got back from vacation today. I guess I had a good time as
    I forgot my password to the system and had to spend about 20 min
    trying to figure out what it was. A week on lake powell and another
    week of non-structured goofing off was just what I needed.

    I just got back from a combination of camping at Asoteague Island
    where there are wild ponies, camping at Cape Hatteras, and moteling
    it at Virginia Beach where there are wild women. 
    
    I guess my definition of vacation is the feeling that Steve McQueen
    had while riding the motorcycle in the "Great Escape".

    Assateague (not the right spelling) is really neat to visit.  I drove
    down there with a friend one Saturday to see "Misty" and although
    we spent the entire day hiking, we didn't come across any ponies
    nearby.  The closest we saw was about 5 miles away.
    
    We hung around until 6-7 o'clock, and lo-and-behold dozens upon
    dozens of itty-bitty ponies appeared along side the rode to graze.
    They really are cute, although *don't* pet them: they bite.  Lots
    of miniature deer, to.

    When I was in high school back in Laurel, Maryland in 1972-3 my
    family went to a place called Tom's Cove to camp.  It was either
    on Chincoteague or Assateague (I dont' remember, that was a long
    time ago).  We had a great vacation there.  Is anyone familiar
    with this place, does it still exist.  Just curious, I have alot
    of fond memories of that place.
    
    I'm going to be in Maryland for my 15 year high school reunion
    August 18-22.  I'm really excited about going in spite of the thought
    of the high temps and high humidity.

    If I remember correctly, the film was shot on location in Ocean

    away.

    They don't teach the horses to swim there....they round them up
    every summer and force them to swim to the mainland. I don't understand
    that much more about it though. I think they auction them.?.

    Yeah, Ocean City is just down the road a piece and is very much
    like VA Beach. Did you notice the highway sign that said "Sacramento
    CA   3063 miles "  ? It's right on route 50. I thought that was
    great, and I checked the map...it looks like 50 is a direct shot.
