We have another VAX 7840 getting power-e-bad again! This machine
doesn't have battery backup. We just loaded firmware S0D for this
problem but after about 30 days the problem has come back. We have
tried replace the ECM and all the ribbon cables to it but we continue
to have this problem. The system is running VMS 6.1. What else could
causing this problem?

I wish I knew!. The S0D versio of the console was an attempt to fix
this problem. We thought that the PS uart was having a data overrun
condition and once this occured it left the UART with these bits set so
any subsequent power status request from the OS would leave result in
the message your receiving. The SOD code resets the uart after the
data overrun condition so it should not have reported any more errors
unless there was one. We do not have any systems here that exhibit
this problem. We are trying to figure out some process whereby the
data needed can be collected at the site to determine whats going on.
BTW...which site is this problem at that your reporting?
