Hi, One of my customers having 7610 faces following problem: The customer has 2 UPS.One of which is in standby mode.If one UPS fails ,the standby UPS takes over.They have connected other servers (From HP and IBM) also besides VAX 7610 on this UPS.During this changeover of powersource from the failing UPS to standby UPS,the VAX reboots.While the other servers on the same power source keeps running.But the VAX starts rebotting as if you have switched off the system and powering it again.We tried replacing power regulator and xmi i/o card but the status is same. I want to know 1. If someone has faced similar problem on VAX 2. Where can I get related data about what is the time delay of power interrupti on a VAX 7610 can withstand in this type of condition. 3. Any pointer to these kind of information will be very helpful. Does this system have a battery PIU installed? The system should be
able to ride through a brief power interruption of up if there
is a battery installed. Without the PIU, I don't think there is ANY
power ride through capability. If there is a battery PIU installed,
the system should be able to operate for about 10 minutes during a
power interruption which should be plenty of time to switch the
customer's UPS systems.

According to the purchase spec for the 30-33796 regulator the
ride-through is 21 milli-seconds. The recovery time before a
second 21 milli-second ride through can be achieved is 50 milli-seconds.
A ride-through is defined as the time that a loss of ac input to the
regulator can be survived at full output load. The output load is
defined as the 48V bus in the 7600 cabinet.
Is the system configured such that it is near the maximum for one
regulator? Each 48 volt regulator in the 7600 cabinet runs off of
a seperate phase. Does the UPS provide a clean transition on
all of the phases that it is supplying? You could try swapping
the 48v regulator to a different slot to see if a different phase
is `cleaner' during power transistion.

Hi,
Thanks Brian and Dennis for your early reply.
We are planning to hook up power analyzer at customer location and try to see
what happens during transition.We will also try to see if it crosses the ride
through limit for regulator i.e. 21 milliseconds.Please find herewith crash
dump analysis and two entries from error log analysis.I will keep you informed
about any new development/outcome.
