Recently checked this oldie but goodie out of Blockbuster's. I'm into
family movies and often find myself walking out with nothing either
because we've already seen it or because we won't rent R movies (with
the notable exception of "Glory"). Anyway ...

This movie was just as good as I remember it being when I was a kid.
My family nearly bust a gut through the whole thing, from start to end.
As my boy put it, sometimes you can tell when a movie is good just by
how fun the opening credits are. From start to end, this thing is a
hoot. Be sure to hook up the sound to the home stereo and try to watch
it on a big screen. The copy we had was done in that wide-screen
format they use to let you see everything. You'll probably miss a lot
of the details on a small screen.

Lots of gags and cameos (even including the 3 Stooges for a brief,
color cameo). Surprisingly, Cinemania only gave this 2.5 stars out of
    4. But, this is probably because there are so *many* big names in it
that it expectations were much higher. If you haven't seen this one in
a while, get it again. And, surround yourself with kids (or kids at
heart) that haven't seen it before.

It's on two cassettes and is a long movie. But, our kids didn't mind.
Excellent music. Excellent story. Intelligent and well thought-out.
The special effects run from cheezy to downright amazing, especially
the flight stunts. Only one minor nit, after the spoiler:

    <spoiler>

Toward the end of the movie, the cop tells them that they have to take
the cabs back because all the other vehicles are stolen. Actually,
this was not true if you think about it. Two of the fellows arrived in
a car that they rented. They didn't speak up and it was obvious (to
me) that they ran into a problem in getting everyone to pack into the
two cabs. However, my wife found ways to justify the action of the two
gents. Basically, one could consider that they wanted to be with the
gang and didn't want to risk showing up at the police station alone.

| Hear, hear! This and "The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming" are probably my favorite "from when I was a kid" movies. I got copies of both as soon as they were available on video (for a reasonable price, that is :-) ). Although I don't think my copy of MMMMWorld is in letterbox. Hmmm.... I fondly remember "the big doubleya" and "didja see the way he went [smack] SAILING out there?!" (hmm, may be time to watch this again!) -- Nina | |||||

| yeah.. this was a classic. Anyobdy have a list of the cast that was in
that movie? What year was that movie made? I want to say the early
    60's.
