If you liked "He Said, She Said," you'll also like him in "She's Having
    A Baby."

He was also good in "Diner," although another smaller role.

I thought he was likeable as Jimmy Dolan in "The Air Up There". He
played a real nut case in a white water rafting movie who's name
    escapes me right now.

I don't know what it is about him but I like to watch him. I thought
it was funny when he gave Steve Martin a run for his money in catching
a cab in Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

I wonder what it is about him?

"He Said, She Said" was a moderately funny film.
Unfortunately, I can set my watch to the times
that some of the movie channels show this one.

Wasn't he the cop who gets trampled on in the finale
    of "Animal House"??

YES!! Thank you. I was going to mention that one too but I
forgot about it. That one had the usual Kevin Bacon flash-
    	backs and daydreams also.

| | Back when _A Few Good Men_ came out, I read something about "here's one
of the leading-men pack who's decided to concentrate on being a
character actor, and he's good at it."

I don't think he has a lot of star power, so concentrating on secondary
roles seems right for him. He has a dependable kind of screen
presence; he doesn't set the screen on fire, but it's nice to see him.

I pretty sure he was in JFK too, but can't remember the part right now.

In JFK, he was the prostitute that Kevin Costner approached in prison,
to glean information about the Joe Pesci and Tommy Lee Jones
    characters.

All three of 'em certainly were playing roles a bit different from what
we expect to see them in. I liked the movie just for Tommy Lee's white
hair and Joe Pesci's weird eyebrows. :)

| | Hi! I'm new to the conference so you may not know me, but here's my
    two cents...

I like Kevin Bacon...he's reliable for what he is and has never made me
cringe. Also, ol' Kev made a "small" film (and this is going to be
very vague) about a film student who sets out trying to make the movie of
his dreams and gets trapped in the Hollywood nightmare. Great little
movie, VERY accurate depiction of the Hollywood game, GREAT supporting
    cast...

Can anyone think of the name...

lost all his money. He than became a Bicycle delivery boy and had a run
in with a drug dealer. THat movie is calle Quicksilver.
The movie where he was a psycho white water guide was something
like white water summer,or something. Coinsidently he will be riding
the rapids in a new movie, but I'm not sure of the title.

In ANIMAL HOUSE he was in ROTC.

He has also done a movie where he an Kyra Sedgewick have an interesting

| | One interesting film (which no-one in the world saw) was "Enormous
Changes at the Last Minute", which was based on three or four stories
by the non-prolific short story writer Grace Paley.

Bacon played a young guy in a serious relationship with an older woman
in one of the stories. The film also featured Ellen Barkin (back before
she was recast by Hollywood as "sex goddess") in a very good role in
    another story.

The film played briefly theatrically around 1985. I have no idea
whether it is available on videotape.

| | For those who don't follow USENET, there was a thread there a while ago
(I think it was inspired by some MTV talk show) about how most actors/actresses
could be linked to Kevin Bacon through a small number of films; of course, the
reality is that virtually *all* actors/actresses can be so linked, and the
choice of Bacon is arbitrary (in fact, people like Michael Caine and Gene
Hackman give shorter paths in most cases). But you still occasionally see
a reference to "Bacon number" there.
In any case, here's the inevitable filmography; answers to many of the
questions posed earlier can be found in a careful study of this:

| | There was an interesting article in the Boston Globe yesterday
(04AUG96) about a game that some guys invented called (tenatively)
Makin' Bacon, or something like that. The thing they seem to
discovered is that EVERYONE who has made a movie in the last n (10?)
years is no more than four degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon. In
other words, if they made a movie with him, that's ONE degree of
separation, if they made a movie with someone who made a movie with
him, that's TWO, etc. I don't have a scanner, but maybe someone who
has one could capture the article for the conference.

If you consider how many big names appeared in "The Big Picture",
    	I guess it's not surprising.

I have a "RockNet" map that links bands together [this was made
by me [for the most part], manually, so is in no way automated]
by common performers, and I think it'd be interesting to try a
"StarNet" for movies ... but it'd be ALOT of work, since the
cast list for the typical movie is 10x as big as the player list
for a typical band [except for Earth, Wind and Fire 8^)].

If you have Web access, you don't need no stinkin' scanner. :-) You can
search 7 days' worth of Boston Globe articles from their Web site at
www.globe.com. HOWEVER, their search engine leaves a bit to be desired...
(it can be a challenge to turn up the article you're looking for). I just
tried various permutations of searching on "Kevin Bacon" and came up empty.
If you have the article handy when you're searching you can search for a
specific phrase and might have better luck...
