526.0. "A Bronx Tale" by NETRIX::michaud (Kenny the gardner) Thu Apr 21 1994 11:04

	This is Robert De Niro's directorial debut.  De Niro plays
	the bus driver father of Calogero in the Italian section of
	the Bronx in the early 1960's.  Two buildings over from where
	Calogero lives is a bar & gambling operation run by a man
	named Sonny.

	One day Calogero is a witness to Sonny shooting a man over a
	parking spot.  Calogero doesn't rat when pressured by the police
	(Calogero is only 9 years old at this time) and from that day
	on Sonny (a bachlor) starts treating Calogero as if he was his
	own son.

	Eight years later Calogero is 17 years old, his father still drives
	a bus, Sonny is more powerful, and his friends are racist.  Calogero
	falls for a tall black woman at his school and the trouble starts
	there ......

	Thumbs up, and a great sound-track from the do-wop sound of the
	later 50's to the changing times/music of the mid/late 60's.

	Joe Pesci has a cameo near the end.

	Interesting note about this movie. it's based on a true story. The man who played Sonny is actually the person this story is based upon (i.e. in real life, he was the kid...) /scott

	I saw the film last night on video. I thought that it was a really good film, there were some really hilarious sceens in it. Spoilers : The sceen when C is playing dice for Sonny and Sonny is sending all the people he doesn't like to the bathroom, - that just cracked me up. later rodge.

	One of the best movies I've seen recently. The performance of Calogoro (sp.) as a kid and as a young man was very convincing. A.

	My wife and I watched it last weekend on the little screen. She thought the language was a little rough, but we both liked it. Sonny was excellently played. The scene with the bikers in the neighborhood bar was great. -Jerry
