| | Well this is the end of September and the good son is out. I went to
see it over the week end. This movie is quick and riveting. The movie
is 90 minutes long but it seemed like 5 minutes. The move starts and
never stops rarely slows down. You get one or two breathers to catch
your breath but every scene directly contributes to the ending. I have
never seen a little kid so vicious so purely evil without the use of
blood or gore. The movie is very suttle no blood or gore scenes. I
don't know why it got an R rating. One f***, a little blood at the
end, no sex, but a lot of implied violence. A very good movie.

I also liked the movie. I thought the ending was predictable, but it
was still exciting. I kept grabbing my significant other through the
whole movie. I think that's why he enjoyed it ;-)

    Two thumbs up.

| | The trailer turned me off completely, and my 8-year-old daughter said
"I DON'T want to see THAT."

I think you've stated why the "R" - heck, I don't need to see this
stuff and I certainly don't want my daughter to see it!

| | re .3, yeah, it turned me off, too. (although, my daughter, at 19, is
old enough to decide for herself) :-)

The idea of kids being evil is a real downer for me, though. Bad
    enough that some grown-ups are!

| | When I heard the first preview for this, I thought, "Just another
remake of 'The Bad Seed'" - and some of the critics quoted in reviews
also draw that parallel. Does anyone know if the movie _is_ a remake of
'The Bad Seed'? [The original film version of 'Seed', while pretty much
a psychological thriller, did touch on the question of whether behavior
(and morality) can be inherited; i.e., can someone be born evil...]

The previews kind of cast it in a vein of "The Omen." Or is the kid
just rotten on a mundane level?

| | I didn't see "Bad Seed" but from the title I would guess not. The kid's
father is shown to be a busy business man who cares about his family
but doesn't really spend much time with them. The kid is just evil in
    a mundain way.

| | Joyce Kulhaywik (spelling?), on Channel 4, in Boston, gave it a very
bad review last night on TV. She said the kid (whatever his name is
from Home Alone) gave a good performance, but other than that she
thought it was pretty bad. She said the movie never gives any reason
for why the kid is so rotten.

| | Didn't Home Alone get really bad reviews. All it matters is how
much money the movie makes and if the individual who saw the movie liked
it. I never judge what movies I want to see by Critics.

| | Well, I could tell by the review that I wouldn't like The Good Son, and
I thought Home Alone stunk, too.

I'll never underestimate the poor taste of the American public. :-)

not to mention Claude Van Damme)

We saw it this past weekend. I enjoyed it. The scenery was quite
enjoyable. The plot was predictable, but entertaining. As was mentioned
earlier, the movie seems to be going at warp 6 sometimes. I found it difficult
to believe that it was a full 90 minutes in length.
Two and a half stars, out of four.

| | >> can someone be born evil
Nothing to do with the film, but the latest research apparently suggests that
such things as a tendency to steal are inherited, but that violence is
learned. This is the opposite of what most people expected.
Well, I thought it was interesting...

| | I haven't seen this movie yet, but I have read the Bad Seed, seen the
original and the remake. From what I can see from the previews, this
movie is not based on the book. If you've never seen the original Bad
Seed, rent it, you won't be disappointed.
