I recently saw a story on MTV's "The Big Picture" where some people
in Hollywood were considering the idea of having a movie open on
Pay-per-view before it opens at the box office. They stated that it
would have to be a pretty big movie to try and equal the kind of hype
a big boxing match gets...like maybe an Arnold movie????

Anyway, as I was watching Total Recall on tv the other night, the MTV
story came back to my mind and I thought how horrible it would be to
see a movie like this on opening day on a television set. The effects
don't even come close to what is experienced in the theater.

I remember a Siskel & Ebert program where they showed many examples of
how much can be missed by not having the letterbox effect on the
television when watching big-screen movies. But even watching the
movie on tv in letterbox does not give the full effect.

Here are a couple movies that I regret not having seen
    on the big screen:

    		Out of Africa
    		Road Warrior
    		Medicine Man

I was overjoyed when the director's cut of Blade Runner came out
because I never saw that one on the big screen up until then.

| re .1 Without getting into a discussion about the movie, I agree
that it wasn't the greatest movie, but the scene where they
are above the canopie of the forest must have been awesome
    	   on a big screeen.

| ... is it possible the dominant sense is Sound rather than Sight?

Who's got an audiophile-style TV sound system? (Party at -your- place:-)
