I'm usually a reader of this conference, not a writer, but I have a
question for all you out there.
I have been breeding lovebirds since Christmas with wonderful
success. Hand feeding little ones, etc..
Two months ago I picked up a proven pair of Cocktiels. They
are well adjusted and seem happy, but they have not made any
effort to go into their breeding box and certainly are not
mating.
Now my lovebirds live in their breeding boxes only to come out to
eat or play in their baths and are certainly breeding!
Is it too soon for them (the cocktiels) to breed after being moved
to a new cage family and all? I am expecting too much too soon
with their adjustment?
Thanks for any help,
Terry

Hi Terry,
Yes you are right it is too early to expect them to breed. I don't know
cockatiels specifically, but you shouldn't be discouraged if it takes
more than a year, also most birds breed seasonally based on length of
daylight and temperature fluxuations.
