Hi,
Since it seems that I'm not going to be able to find my finches homes I
was wondering if you could help me with a problem I'm having. I have
seperated the male and female zebras. At first I left the cages side
by side so they could see each other since it seemed that the really
liked each other. Well, the male refused to eat. So, feeling that he
may be terrified of the female, I moved him out of the room. Now he
just sits on the food cup and doesn't eat or drink. He is all puffed
up and has a big bald spot on the back of his neck. The female is fine
and still eating and chirping away. I'm puttin Necton on his food and
in his water hoping that he will get some vitamins if he nibbles at
all. Can anyone give me any advice.

Hi Lisa,
Unfortunately, if the bird is not used to Nekton, it can 'turn them
off' the food and they won't eat or drink. I am just reading your
note today...hope he is okay. Try spray millet in his cage. A lot
of times when birds won't eat, they WILL pick at the spray millet,
and it is a favorite of the finches. Try some hard-boiled egg with
wheatgerm mixed in, about a teaspoon full, in a small treat cup.
If he eats the egg, try adding a little bit of Nekton in the next
time to see if he accepts it. Nekton-Bio is great for birds going
through a molt, whether natural or imposed, but it is very expensive.
The good news is that a little bottle lasts a looooong time. Call
me at home this week if I can be of any help 603-595-9429--answering
machine is on all the time, but I do return calls as soon as possible.
I might be able to help find a home for the finches too.

Lisa,
I just got back from vacation and read both of your notes. I have a
flight cage with 5 finches that could handle two more finches. If
your still interested in finding a home for your two finches give
me a call. I'm at dtn 234-5137 this week. I don't know how they will
get along with my finches, but I'm willing to give them a try.
