I'd like to build a little outdoor aviary for a few of by birds, but am
not very creative. I've tried the local library - no luck on aviary
building books. I've seen quite a few beautiful ones in bird talk,
even some very nice indoor ones that would be great, but no
instructions or suggestions. If I get a construction plan I could
follow it easily, but I can't just think up a design and slap some wood
and screening together and make it work.

Anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone seen a book on aviary building
which might include some building plans?

    Thanks,
    Peg

| I agree! I've been to more libraries looking for aviary plans. I have had absolutely no luck. I ordered a Corners Limited catalog (they sell prefabricated pieces that you can build aviaries from) but they were too expensive, and not very attractive. They seemed more suited to a breeder who planned on having rows of cages rather than something nice for your living room or back yard. I would be interested in any books out there too. I guess I'm really lucky 'cause my jusband just built me a beautiful
aviary!! We got tired of multi- cages all over so he drew up a design
and put it together. It is on the idea of a large hutch with oversize
drawers and cabinets on each side underneath and a pull-out in the
center for either trash or bird seed. I don't know the exact
dimensions but it will be almost the length of one dining room wall.
It's almost finished, just waiting for the last few touches. If
anyone is interested I don't think he'd mind talking to you about it.
You can call Brian at home nights at 603-547-6890. He's pretty handy
so he may be able to come up with outdoor plans too.(he doesn't know
it yet but that's one of his next projects!)

| 386.3 | Found a book | TRNPRC::WERBER | Tue Aug 07 1990 12:22 | 7 | |
| I'd just like to note that I found a book offered in Bird Talk magazine
called "Build Your Own Aviary", published by Avian Publications, 3311
    W. Country Club Lane, Dept. BT, Altoona, WI 54720 (715) 835-6806. The
price is $9.95 plus $2.50 postage. I don't know how good this book
will be but I'm going to order it.

| Just an added note:

This book is OK - it mainly gives plans for LARGE outdoor aviaries, but
it's fairly easy to follow. Will be building one in spring...
