The band is a thick silver substanc eand in all in one piece. and
    reads FEB 88.

the reson we ask is when we bought the bird in 3/4/89 we were told
the bird was only 6-7 1/2 months old. We are now having our doubts
as to how old the Bird relly was when we bought her in March of
    this year.

| | All my closed banded birds have the following type of information
    on their bands:

    CO 88 H151 36
    ^ ^ ^ ^
    ^ ^ ^ ^--------- Breeder's lot number
    ^ ^ ^------------- Breeder's registration number
    ^ ^----------------- Year hatched
    --------------------- State

You can trace the breeder # through the Dept. of Health. The lot #
is kept by the Breeder and also supplied to the Health Dept. The
lot number can be traced usually to the exact date the bird was
    hatched.

Doesn't sound like your banding is the same, but maybe this will
    help a little.

| | I use ABS bands on my Bourkes. they belong to the americam Budgidger
society and each breeder has a number, year and lot number as above.

Budgidger is sometimes known as the parakeet.
