Definitely a good idea. Not only for 'natural environment', but
also for extracting nutrients from chewing the bark.
The only caveat is: ensure that the branches have not been
sprayed/treated with a wood preservative, de-infestation, etc.

There is a not a while back that Jean wrote regarding using natural
branches. Jean talked about using a bleach solution and baking
the branches. I don't remember the details, nor the location of
the note.
