| Mad Max sounds like my nape, Piedy. Piedy has like Mad Max
chosen my _SO_!! And behaves the same. Piedy will straddle his/her
feet over Rey's hand or arm and make a wheezing-like sound and then
when really excited begin to honk, and he clenches his feet into
a tight little ball.
He occasionally will regurgitate....lucky for us it's only
occasionally. I think it's probably breeding season or near
breeding season for most birds....it definitely seems that
way for Piedy.

| I have a breeding pair of greys, and the female was my 'first' parrot.
I have owned her for over nine years, and yes, this sounds like
mating behavior. The crouching you mention is the ritual of sex
to the parrot, the female will crouch down, and with the wings slightly
apart, flutter them. Do you know if its a true male??? My female
has done this with me together with regurgitating food. As much
as I love the bird, I drew the line at eating the stuff, and she
didnt mind so much.
How old is the bird, and are you planning on mating it?

No we don't know if Mad Max is a true male. I (who knew nothing
about pet birds prior to this) came home from work one day to find
Max sitting on our balcony. After discovering what the medical
procedure is to sex greys, we decided that it wasn't worth it so
arbitrarily named 'him' Max. I have since learned that females
tend to like men, and from what you are saying this is female
behaviour, so maybe Max is really Maxine.
Whatever, we wish for Max to be a pet, and I am not interested in
breeding anyway. Did you find that your first female became
disinterested in you after you got the mate for her?

Sounds like Max is Maxine! The 'snurffling' crouching and wing
spreading...sounds like an broody little hen! Do you agree chet?
Breeding season for grays is November through late spring, maybe
as late as early June.
I think a lot of birds that are sold as males, because of the fact
that most of the uneducated public feel only males talk, are truly
lady birds! And as you know, the lady birds are just as great as
the male birds!

| Hi Jean, hope it's not too late for you to see this!
No one ever said that Max(ine) was either male or female. Since
we didn't know, we just arbitrarily chose the name Max. It seemed
to make sense since Max's talking mostly is male. It's kinda hard
for the human mind to conceptualize a male voice coming out of a
female, although I realize that she's just mimicing whatever she
heard.
I don't know if I will be able to get used to thinking of Max as
female!

day here! Sniff!
Well, there I went assuming again!! Male and Females talk alike!
Unlike some other hookbill species.... and that voice! It's hard
to conceptulize anything talking in those kinds of voices! ;-)
Remember when I was babysitting Fred, the red lored parrot? Well,
We made an emergency call to the vet at midnite....Fred was laying
on the floor of the cage making awful sounds.....Fred was fine!
SHE just wanted to lay eggs!!!! Did I feel too stupid? Oh No!

They do tend to become a little aggressive when in the mood though.
don't be too surprised if you get nipped when you least expect it!
