A quick addition to the base note....

I was down at Boston Pet on Friday (Feb 17th) and they had 4
Animal Enviroment Cages displayed on the floor. I noteced that
the price for a Cockatoo cage was $7xx. I would assume that they
are purchasing them from for about the same thing we can, and
    then adding shipping and profit...

I guess it depends on how quickly you want the cage.

They also had a wonderful selection of toys, manzanita perches,
swings, I got out of there for only $58 and considered that I had
    expressed both reserve and frugality....

For those who don't know, Boston Pet is on First Street, accross
    from Lechmere.

| 121.2 | Twice used AE cage at Boston Pet | MPGS::TAI | are we having fun yet?? | Mon Feb 20 1989 11:40 | 11 |
| | I don know if it's still there.....
I too, went to Boston Pet a couple of weeks ago. They had a white
amazon AE cage....I think they wanted $300-something for it.

The cage was used once or twice for a show I believe.
    It was in excellent condition.

I've already placed an order for one so I couldn't buy it.

Can I ask where Boston Pets is located? (Town).... I am from
the Worcester area and have heard it mentioned a few times in
this file and in the Pet-Fish file? Might take a ride in to
    take a look at things.

    Thanks,

| 121.4 | Directions to Boston Pet | DUNCE::KIRSCHBAUM | And so it Goes... | Mon Feb 20 1989 13:50 | 26 |
| |
Boston Pet is located on First Street, in Cambridge, across from
    Lechmere...

    Driving directions:

Route 93 south to the Storrow Drive Exit. Take Storrow Drive exit,
then bear right following the Museum of Science signs, heading towards
    Cambridge/Somerville.

This leads you onto the McGrath-O'Brien Highway. Go past the Museum
of Science (on left), go thru one traffic light, then the hiway
splits, McGrath-O'Brien, is toward the right, Cambridge St. is toward
    the left. TAKE THE LEFT.

The first traffic light is FIRST STREET. There is a dirt (mud)
lot on the corner of First and Cambridge, park there or if you are
concerned about leaving your car, there is a Parking Garage a block
or so down First Street. Boston Pet is about 3 blocks from the
dirt lot, on the right side of the street, across from Lechmere.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

I did see a white Amazon Cage on the floor, but it had NO price
    tag on it.

| | Is it just me or is anyone else having trouble with the 800 number?
I've tried several times and can't seem to get through... I'd like
to get a catalog , guess I could write for one if all else fails..
Are any of their products supplied with horizontal bars? Everything
that I've seen so far has only vertical bars.. Thanks,
                                                              Don

The CORRECT 800 number for Animal Enviroments is:

    			800-336-2473

| 121.8 | AE cages are great! | MPGS::TAI | GoneTotallyBirdserk!! ^0^ | Fri Mar 31 1989 12:00 | 15 |
| | Well, I finally got my AE cage yesterday! It took 11 weeks, but
it was definitely worth it. If you can part with the money it is
    a terrific cage.

It was a little larger than I had expected (amazon cage), I think
our doorways are just a little small. It takes some maneuvering
to get the cage through a bedroom door.

Our nape seemed to take to it alright, though he didn't spend the
night in it. We're easing her into it by puting her in the cage for
short periods of time to play and eat.

| 121.9 | AE domed top cages | SBLANC::MOEHLENPAH |  | Tue Jun 27 1989 19:42 | 22 |
| | I just bought one, but their prices have increased since the base note
was entered! I was fortunate to visit a shop that had 3 in stock. It
has been taking 12 weeks to fill orders from AE. I bought a beige
Amazon cage, with dome top. I love it. It is a snap to clean,
standard newspapers fit in the bottom tray, my bird is eating
inside(sortof) the outer food cups, saving on expensive Lafeber's
    pellets she WAS dropping before.

Now for my question. I have a Hahn's, and obviously, the bar spacing
is a little wide for a smaller bird, however, waiting until the late
fall for AE's new line of smaller cages was out of the question. In
the latest Bird Talk, under "Covering the Cage", a lady had plexiglass
cut for the outer sides of the domed top. This keeps the birds head
out of the larger spacing of the dome sides. You would almost have to
see the picture to understand. In any case, I need to do that as well,
but I need to have some advice on whether I should flush mount it to
the bars, or leave some space for her feet to encircle.

    Any advice welcomed.

    Ed
