    What do YOU think about the name Myrel?
    
    My husband and I are expecting a boy and I wanted to incorporate our
    names: Stevon Anthony Washington, Juanita Michele Washington and name
    him Anthony Michael.  My husband likes Myrel.  I suggested it for a
    girls middle name because his mother's name is Myrl (I don't like
    that).  To me it's a girl's name, it doesn't sound manly and strong,
    but whimpy.
    
    What do you think?

	I never heard of this name. How do you pronounce it? For a girl, I would prefer a more common spelling, like "Meryl", or "Merle". It doesn't remind me of any boys name I know except Myron, which I wouldn't use.

	I have never heard of Myrel, but did use the pronounciation that you provided. To me, it sounds like a girls' name - kind of a takeoff from Muriel. Would I give it to a boy - only if I wanted him to be teased his whole life. I know, this is only my opinion. Chris

	Personally, I wouldn't use it for a boy's name for the same reasons mentioned. However, if your husband feels that strongly about it, then perhaps you could use it as the middle name and you pick the first name. i.e. Michael Myrel Washington or Anthony Myrel Washington, etc. One sort of similar name that I think does sound decent for a boy is Tyrell. For a girl, I also prefer the variations of Mariel, Meryl or even Myrelle, because they are less "weird"-seeming (IMHO) and also look prettier. I've also known a couple girls named Toni, i.e. Toni Lynn, Toni Marie, for what it's worth. What are your husband's choices for a girl (or yours)? As most things in marriage, the name game is also an exercise in compromise... Good luck! -Cori
