    Hi Mary,

I prefer both Kara (or Cara) and Kristin, of the names you listed,
over Kirsten. I feel that Kirsten Belinsky is kinda mismatched
ethnically - which is a naming criteria for me, but perhaps not
for you... Also, isn't Kirstie a nickname for Kirsten?

I'd be careful about first names that have s's or l's and/or ends
in -a, since you're pairing it with Sylvia Belinsky. Again,
    personal preference. .

Of the names you are considering (Kirsten Sylvia, Jillian Sylvia,
Alicia Sylvia, Kara Sylivia, Kristen Sylvia), I guess my preference
would go with Kristen. However, would you consider Karen? I
think Karen Sylvia Belinsky sounds nice. Karen is not likely to be
shortened and complements Ellen well, imho. I also like Rachel
    Sylvia Belinsky.

    Good luck choosing!
    Carol

    Re: .1

You answered the very question I was trying to ask - is Kirsten
mismatched ethnically? I likened it to a blonde haired girl, but you
    got it right.

I am concerned about the possible mismatch, but then I notice the
number of little Megans and Caitlyns running around - two very Irish
names, and some I know have very different last names, such as Polish.

So that's when I wonder if it still is an issue. It may boil down to
    personal preference as you mentioned.

As for Karen and Rachel, yes I do like them somewhat. I was hoping for
something more unusual than Karen. As for Rachel, a friend's daughter
has that name. I'll run it past my husband just to see what he says.

I like Kara, but he doesn't. We'll just have to keep working on it.

    Mary

| 825.3 | One vote for KAREN | RTOEU::KRICKS | There is no place like home.... | Fri Sep 04 1992 07:47 | 15 |
| | Hi,

I really like the name Kirsten. Living in Germany I have many friends
named Kirsten with both blond and brown hair. In my opinion Kirsten is
not like the name Sandy where I definately associate it with a blond
    haired person.

I must say I think Karen is a great suggestion. It flows very well
with your last name, it can't really be shortened and it is not an
    overly common name.

| 825.4 | How about Dana? | AMCUCS::MEHRING |  | Fri Sep 04 1992 18:01 | 14 |
| | Karen isn't my favorite... too similar sounding to Ellen.
How about:
Dana Sylvia Belinsky (or a different, non-a middle name)
Liza Sylvie Belinsky (Elizabeth seemed too long)
Suzanne Sylvia Belinsky (Su-Sy?)
Krista Sylvie Belinsky (variation of the other K-names)
Kathleen (Katy) Sylvia Belinsky (goes good with Ellen)
I guess I like the 2-syllable names ending in -a or -n too!
Good luck,
-Cori

| | IMHO, I don't think the name Dana ethnically fits (Anglo-Saxon) with
the last name Belinsky (Polish/Russion). It is indeed a great name though.

Whenever I think Russion, short names ending in 'a' come to my mind -
Lara, Alexa, Nadia, Maria, Alexandra ... Unfortunately it might sound a
bit choppy with the middle name Sylvia. So if you like a name ending in
'a' maybe you could use the middle name Sylvie as suggested in the
    previous reply.

    Lara Sylvie Belinsky
    Alexa Sylvie Belinsky
    and so on...

I know several Polish people with german names (Klaus, Manfred et
cetera) - I guess because of the fact that Poland was part of Germany
at one time. So - I think the names Kirsten and Karen are very fitting
    ethnically with the name Belinsky.

    Just my 2 cents worth!!!!!!!!!

    Cheers,
    Kimberly

| 825.6 | May drop Sylvia as middle name | WR2FOR::BELINSKY_MA |  | Tue Sep 08 1992 12:12 | 16 |
| | Thanks for the suggestions. We've been giving it all some more thought
and are now open to a different middle name than Sylvia. Much as we
wanted to use it, we finally agreed that it is too strong, and seems to
get in the way of any first name selections.

So for now, other middle names are welcome.

In the previous replies, I like names like Krista, Alexa, etc. I'll
see what my husband thinks. As for Dana, a friend in my playgroup
named her son that. I agree that it is perhaps too Anglo-Saxon. Also,
    Kirsten is still our favorite.

Keep the replies coming. You're doing a great job!

    Mary

| | I think Kirsten Sylvia Belinsky is a lovely name and goes well with
    Ellen's name also.
