    I am looking for a one word "term of endearment" type name, e.g. Bijou
    = Jewel, for a four legged female "baby" that I will take delivery of
    in approximately one week.  Something in either French/Spanish/Italian
    would be most welcome.

    Meja (not correctly spelled either I don't believe) Spanish for
       Daughter
    Schotsy (pronounced shot-see)(sp) German for "Sweetheart"
    Glickamo (sp) Greek for "Sweetheart"

    Yes, it's a papillon puppy - the first dog I've ever owned and we are
    having a more difficult time agreeing on a name than we did choosing
    human baby names.

    Since papillon is butterfly ... and a common (and regal) butterfly here
    is the Monarch ... what about something of a Royal or Regal name ?

    Gentlepeople:
    
    Thanks for your suggestions.  I thought I would close off this topic by
    advising that we have decided on the name Gypsy, which is old English.
    
    We thought it would be appropriate for a breed whose origins are
    distinctly European (Spanish/Belgian/Italian/French) as we usually (at
    least I do!!) consider Europe to be the home of the gypsy peoples.
    
    We take delivery of our "baby" this Friday.  I am so excited!!
