| 590.1 | A few names from norway | MADRE::BORDA |  | Fri Sep 28 1990 18:12 | 19 |
| | Well, I'm of Norwegian descent on my mother's side. My name is
pronounced CAR-in (with a kind of a roll on the "r" when pronounced
in Norwegian!). Some other names in the family are:

    Karl-Erik
    Hans
    Betsy
    Matilda
    Meta
    Rachel (pronounced ROCK-uhl)
    Nils
    Kari

Can't think of any others offhand. I have a friend named Svein (also
Norwegian). I know the Swedes and the Norwegians don't like each other,
    but the names are similar!

    Karin

| | Thanks for additional names....I must let you know that Karin was the
FIRST name that I liked...but I was not really sure if I liked it with
    Lindquist....Hummm Karin ... Lindquist.

Well, I do have 6 more months to think about it.

| | How about "Ingrid" for a girl, "Eric" for a boy?

My brother and I were given those names. Although our surnames
are not Swedish, these names fit well with just about anything.

"Ingrid" apparently means "new-born daughter," and Eric "strong."

I've always liked both names and, in my case, the association
    with the late Ingrid Bergman!

    Ingrid

| | My husband is of Swedish descent and his cousin is 'into' being
Swedish. They named their daughter Elin (pronounced E-lynn) after a
relative who is still in Sweden.

She likes it (she's now 15) butsays that she does have to correct
folks (alot of people think her name is Ellen - just spelled
differently). She also said that the only other one she's ever met is
    her relative in Sweden.

| | My sister-in-law's parents were both born in Sweden. Her Mother's name
was Kirstin Ohs (pronounce Ki-ers-tin, said quickly - NOT kir stin) and
her Dad's name is Lawrence Ohs. My sister-in-law's name is Ingrid and her
sister is Karin (Kaar-in). Ingrid's daughter is Linnea Kirstin.
    That's pronounced Lyn-A-ah.
