We're adopting a baby in the next month or two, and we've been trying
to come up with names for a girl and a boy. If it's twins we'll be in
real trouble (^;} ! Our last name is Resende (pronounced
re-SEND-ee). Its origin is Portugese.
If we adopt a girl, her first name will be Laura after my husband's
grandmother whom he adores. Middle name is up for grabs; we haven't
come up with anything we really can't live without. My maiden name is
Mangum. My mother's name was a double name -- Stora Lee, which I love,
but it doesn't exactly go with Laura (Laura Stora????). If we have a
second daughter, I'd like to name her after Mother, but not this time.
My name is Patricia Louise; Patricia doesn't go too well with Laura,
and I'm not wild about Louise. Mother's maiden name was Davis, and I'm
sort of leaning toward that, but I'd really like to hear other ideas.
We have nothing picked out for a boy at all.
My husband's name is Stephen Michael, which I love. But Steve doesn't
like juniors, so we won't use his name. My father's name is Henry
Bivens, but my brother is a junior and I feel I should leave Daddy's
name to him if he wants to use it for a son. My husband's father's
name is Armando -- he's a nice man, but neither of us wants to use that
name! Since we won't have a Stephen Michael, Junior, I'd like to use
at least one of my husband's names -- either Stephen or Michael.
Ideas to go with Resende???????

Pat,
If you like Stephen Michael so much, why don't you just reverse the
names and call the baby Michael Stephen. That avoids having a junior
while still naming the baby after your husband. My cousin did that
with her son because she also didn't want a junior. Also, my brother
is named after my father, but they have different middle names so he is
not a junior, and to this day (he's 46), most of my cousins still call
him "Little Peter." That's another reason that my cousin went for the
name reversal instead of just changing middle names.
Good luck coming up with a name, and congratulations on the baby.

For a boy, why not Michael Stephen? Or Michael Henry?
And Laura Patricia isn't all bad. (after all, it _is_ only a middle
name.) As a matter of fact, the more I think about Laura Patricia
Resende, the more I like it!

I wanted to pass along another idea to you. My cousin was having
problems picking her boys name and came up with this. Her husband's
name is John Michael and she wanted to incorporate his name into
the baby's. So what she did was use Ian which is the Scottish form
of John and used his middle name of Michael. They call him Ian.
Maybe theres another form of Stephen you could use and he could
in fact be Stephen by another name. Good luck with your new baby.

Why not use male versions of your name and female versions of your
husbands? How about Laura Michelle, or Laura Stephanie (I don't
like that nearly as much.) Or for a boy you can use Patrick. Stephen
Patrick, or Michael Patrick. Or you can even use Louis.
