| | how about Brett Robert for a boy.
for a girl, how about Kailyn Breann. My daugher's name is Kayla
Breann and I have received so many comments on how different and
    pretty her name is.

| | What is the background for Brett? It sounds Swiss.

I like Breann. Is it pronounced BREE-ANN?

Any Gaelic names for boys? My sister is stuck on Gaelic names. I like
the name Connor, but don't know if it's Gaelic or not. Anyone know
    what it means?

| | I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE NAME BRETT IS. I WOULD HAVE TO LOOK IT UP
IN MY BABY NAME BOOK WHICH IS AT HOME. I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS DIFFERENT
AND WENT WELL WITH THE LAST NAME.

BREANN IS PRONOUNCED EXACTLY LIKE YOU SAID (BREE-ANN).

| 393.6 | How 'bout Evan? | CLOVE::MACDONALD_K |  | Fri Jun 09 1989 13:54 | 11 |
| | I really like the name Evan, although it is two syllables. But
then, Ian is also and they've already used that name (which, by
the way, is my choice if I have a boy but can't convince my husband).
Anyway, back to Evan... I think it sounds great with Robert as
a middle name and his initials would be ERA. I think it's kind
of neat - but maybe not everybody would. Oh well, just my 2c.

Oh, I almost forgot - I like Colin, too.

Take it from a Certified Public Accountant -- it's not neat.

| | I like Evan a lot. With Robert and Abrahamson, it sounds sort of
regal....Evan Robert Abrahamson. I like it. Thanks.

Have any suggestions for the middle name to go with Cailyn?

Glad you like Evan... I met a man named Evan once who said he's
really enjoyed going through life with that name. I'm not sure,
but I think it means "hero" or "warrior" or something like that.

Now... a middle name for Cailyn. How about something traditional
and plain like "Mary"? Cailyn Mary Abrahamson. I like that.

I don't have my book with me, but I'm pretty sure Evan is
just the Welsh form of John.

| | Thanks for all the names and meanings. I'm still waiting patiently
for the Mother to "pop." (Believe me....if someone took a pin to her
    feet, I think she might.)

She has definitely decided upon Evan Robert for a boy, but for some
reason has given up on her search for a middle name to go with Cailyn.
(Now watch, she'll have a girl, and she'll drive me crazy to look for
    another.)

I'll let you all know when she has him/her ---- should be any day now.

And thanks again (still open for more though).

| 393.20 | Re .18 | SHALOT::ANDERSON | Give me a U, give me a T... | Fri Jul 14 1989 10:13 | 16 |
| | Good point -- it may very well have two definitions. This
could have come about something like this ... There already
might have been a Welsh name Evan, which meant "warrior."
When the Welsh became Christianized, however, they had to use
saint's names. Because Evan was probably the closest Welsh
name to John, the Welsh decided to substitute it for John.

This is very common in Ireland, so I wouldn't be surprised if
it occurs in other Celtic countries also. A good example from
Ireland is Desmond, which is taken to be a form of Dennis,
though it's actually something quite different.
		-- Cliff
	P.S. Evan the Terrible ??? -- I hope you're joking. BTW,
Ivan is the *Russian* form of John.

| 393.21 | IT'S A GIRL!!!! | SWSCHZ::STAFFARONI |  | Fri Aug 11 1989 12:40 | 16 |
| | Well, the date finally arrived!!! My sister and brother-in-law had
    their baby July 21st at 4:20 p.m. It's a beautiful, 8 lb, 21 inch baby
girl. And the name........Cailyn Helene Abrahamson. They chose Helene
(Pronounced Heleen) because it is my mother's name, and if my mother
isn't the proudest woman alive, I dont know who is!?!

Thanks all of you for your suggestions and comments. I will still read
the notes file when I am in the office, although at the present time, I
am "serving time" (doing a residency) at a customer site.

Sorry it took so long to let you all know!!!! Wish you could see her.
I'm sure you'd fall in love as quickly as we have!

    Regards,
    Sabrina

| | Tell your sister "congratulations" from all of us, Sabrina. Maybe
next time she'll have a little 'Evan' :-) She's made a nice choice
for Cailyn's middle name, too. I wish I had my grandmother's name
for a middle name. Family names are nice to give to your children
because they mean so much. Take care...
