My SO's name is Cary. As in Cary Grant.

Anyone know where it originated and it's meaning?

In my babynames book, it says that Cary is a form of Carey; Carroll.
Carey is defined as "from near the castle (Welsch)" and Carroll
is defined as "champion (-Irish Gaelic)" ~ also a "familiar form
    of Charles."
