| I have known a couple of both, boys and girls, and I don't think I
have ever had trouble with either. I think it is pretty either way.
As far as first thinking Boy or Girl I don't think I have ever just
assumed "Oh a boy" if anything I would first think "Girl". I do
like the spelling Jaime for a girl though.

| When I hear Jamie, I think of a boy first, but know someone named
Jamie, and it does not seem to cause her any problems.

I used to think of Jaime as a girl's name until the last couple
of years severl people I know have named their boys that. So
now when I hear it I think of a boy. Personally, I'd use it as
a girl's name rather than a boy's.

| I think of a boy, but that's because I have a cousin named James
that we have always called Jamie. By the way, he hates it, and
wants to be called Jim, but it seems to be tough for those of us
who have called him Jamie for the last 30 years to get used to that.

| I always think of a girl first. I think Jamie for a ** LITTLE **
boy is cute but might be hard for a man to carry-off as an
an adult - especially in a business environment. He might very
well change it to James or Jim.

| I think first of a girl's name. I wouldn't be too concerned.
There are other names which can be used for both genders -
CHRIS, ROBIN, DANA, to name a few.

| Well, we named our son Jaime, and the only major problem he's had so far
[he's only 4!] is people misspelling his name, which gets him terribly
upset. We have had to correct people who insist on calling him
James [even I find myself doing that sometimes] or Jimmy, but he's
a very vocal little person and does a fine job of correcting people
himself.
The baby was going to be Jaime no matter what it turned out to be,
just with different middle names, of course. Personally, I wasn't
too keen on this spelling for a boy, but my husband prevailed [I
got my way with our daughter!] Funny though -- the male version
is Spanish and the female version is French; I believe they both
mean "I love you"

| Thanks to Jamie Lee Curtis, I think of a girl, and since she is
possibly the most well-known person of that name, that might be
the direction the name will take. Also, there was a girl back in
my high school with that name, and I can't remember ever knowing
a boy named Jamie.

I realize it has been a long time since anyone has replied to this
topic .. But since I am new to this notes file I figured I would
add my $.02 worth ...
I am a male and I have grown up with the name Jammie ( this is not
a typo ... I have been spelling this way all my life ) and was told
it was the Scottish way of spelling it (That's what they tell me
anyway) and when I had my son , people asked me if I was going to
name him Jammie , I told them that I wouldn't do that to anyone
I have grown to like the name ( though my proper name is James)
It is still very easy to remember all the ribbing I took when I
was younger ....
