A recent clip from the WSJ regarding taxes:
"The federal income tax once applied to only 'the very wealth,',
an IRS pulication says. The 358,000 returns files for 1913 represented
about 643,000 taxpayers, or only about 0.8% of the U.S. population
at that time."
my gov't has grown since 1913!

Lately, I've been taken to calling it "creeping socialism".
We've experienced a slow gradual progression toward more government
control throughout the century.
Something to consider on election day.
