392.0. "Thoughts on high risk/reward equity funds" by SU2PLY::MACDONALD (Still crazy after all these years!) Mon Feb 22 1993 13:27
I am giving some thought to moving part of my portfolio to
a higher risk/reward catagory and would like some pros, cons, and
recommendations on these choices:
  1. Aggressive Growth Funds
Based on the logic that smaller company stocks should
outperform the blue chips over the next several years
Choices: Kaufmann, Oberweis Emerging Growth Fund,
		Financial Emerging Growth Fund
  2. International Funds
Pac Rim/Japan focused based upon the logic that these
markets, particularly Japan, are undervalued versus the
US market. (similar note is 389)
Choices: Scudder Japan, Janus Worldwide, Financial Strategic
	Pacific Basin
  3. Specialized Funds
Several areas have outperformed the market and look well
positioned to continue to do so.
Choices: Financial Strategic Financial Services or Leisure,
If this is an area to go with, which of the 3 catagories above
would you pick and why?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas etc.
Mac

| | You might want to consider the Mutual Discovery Fund described in
277.13. I would consider it pretty aggressive, but it is not purely
    small-company, includes some non-US securities and debt-securities
    (junk bonds) as well.
I would avoid sector funds at all costs, unless you really know
    what you are doing.

| | you might also consider buying a large amount of a stock thats
less than 100 per share, alot of new companys sell cheep but
of course there is a lot of risk.....
