| 195.1 | Staying even in this market is a plus | TLE::JBISHOP |  | Thu May 14 1992 15:42 | 24 |
| | I have some T. Rowe Price International Stock.

    It's largely a blue-chip fund, and T. Rowe offers a more
growth-oriented fund called something like "T. Rowe Price
International Emerging Stock Fund", for those who want
some money in lesser-known stocks in the big overseas
markets (and I think some small amount in the smaller and
    newer markets).

The fund hasn't done very well over the last two-plus years
that I've been dollar-cost-averaging into it. The current
value of my account is just about the total of my contributions.
Since the dollar has been getting stronger and the Japanese
market has crashed in the same time frame, I'm pleased with
"stay even"; I'm using this fund as a long-term vehicle to
diversify out of the US, and expect that over the long run
it will provide that diversification and a reasonable return.
In the near term, who knows?

.0 mentions "run out of the U.S", which might mean "managed by
non-US investement managers". Since T. Rowe Price is a US firm,
    it might not qualify.

    Thanks John / .1

Because I'm Canadian based "run out of the U.S." means managed by a
U.S. firm. One of the critical reasons for this is that management
expense ratio's in Canada are pretty high usually between 2 and 3
percent for this type of fund.

The other reason for my wish for an International Class fund is to
diversify outside of the US and for the most part Canada.

I am looking forward to other's experiences with this particular fund
and any knowledge of the specific manager(s) and their style would be
    appreciated.

    Regards, JD

| | I purchased some Price International Stock Fund about 8 months ago.
I sold it for the exact same NAV this week. For most of the interval,
the NAV was below this price. Since I received dividends and cap gains
(at a lower NAV), I made a small return (~5%). This fund is (if memory
serves) mostly invested in Europe and the Far East, with some US
holdings, and a relatively modest percentage of Latin American
    holdings.

All of Price's international offerings are managed jointly between
Price and its UK affiliate (called Price-Fleming, I think).

Would I do it again? Dunno. (I needed the money for other things,
which is why I closed the account.)

| | The latest quartlerly report had this fund holding something like 19% in
Japanese stocks. They attributed the low NAV this quarter to the falling
japanese stock exchange.

| | I have both funds.
They are both managed by Martin Wade and use the resources of an operation based
in the UK, jointly owned by T. Rowe Price, Jardine and Fleming. The last has
been in business since the last century.
Get a copy of the prospectus (same for both funds) and the statement of
additional information for each fund.

| | Thanks Nick,

The Customer Service no. 800-225-5132 works from Alberta, Canada. The
    marketing number does not.

There is a DOS based program available from T. Rowe on calculating your
asset allocation and financial situation. Has anyone tried this
software and is it worth purchasing. (The info is available on hard
copy as well-free of charge). The no. to order this software is
1-800-541-5730. If I remember correctly from an add I saw a while ago
    it was $15.

P.S. Thanks as well for the note on Statements of Additional info.

| | Hi,

Just an update to say that I've completed my investigation and taken
this market slump (International Perspective) to invest in the
    T.Rowe Price Intl. Fund.

I'll play out the TAX consequences at the start of 1993. This fund has
good weightings from an INTL. perspective and Martin Wade has a good
track record and a significant position within the Fund Mgt. He's
managed the fund since inception and now oversee's 3 or 4 of T. Rowe's
other funds as well (Intl. Discovery, Asia Fund, Europe Fund come to
    mind).

I continue to believe that the time is right to invest Internationally
and am about as fully invested as possible at this point. (I've got
about 5% in cash) but that is essentially fully invested.

    Good Luck to all invested.....JD
