While it is possible to make good money with direct (network) marketing
companies, it is harder than the recruiters make it out to be.

I'm not too fond of Primerica and a relative just signed up with them,
and the relative is not too happy with the way they operate.

The quickest way to make money in these businesses is to have lots of
friends and relatives who will buy the product from you. Also, beware
of any company that stresses the recruiting aspect of the business
rather than the sales aspect of the product.

| | Primerica has been mentioned quite a few times in the previous notes
file (INVESTING). They are a large company that owns such comapnies as
A.L.Williams (insurance), Smith, Barney (wall street investment house),
fingerhut, Millco, etc. I wouldn't deal with A.L.Williams agents (most
likely, you were approached by one their agents).

| | do some research, talk to others who are in the business and
ask pointed questions, and last but not least, make up your
own mind. don't let others do it for you.
i believe they have 16 people making more that 1 mill. /year.
Most companies can't come close to that mark.

| 142.5 | Primerica building a financial services empire | ZENDIA::SCHOTT |  | Wed Mar 10 1993 09:44 | 8 |
| | Anyone seen the Wall Street article on the Primerica purchase of
Shearson Lehman? Could someone paraphrase it here?
Apparently, Primerica bought The Travelers a few months ago
and is now purchasing Shearson Lehman. A friend has some stock in
Primerica. I guess it went from 20/share in 1989 to 55/share a few
weeks ago and had a 3 for 2 split. That dropped it to 30/share
and it's already up to 40/share now?

| | Primerica is a very large company, they are number 19 in the top 50 of
the fortune 500 companies. They have the top 7 banks in the world
backing them. The financial services parts of the company show middle
america how to save and make money with their own money. They don't ask
anyone to spend extra money that (we) don't have. They show families
how to reposition their money to make it work harder for them.
The ways they do this is to show families how to cut their costs in
cutting their taxes, reducing their insurance costs, bill
consolidation, increase the rate of interest their money earns. And if
the family is interested in earning extra income they can do so by
showing other families how to take control over their own finances, and
do it on a part time basis.

Yes it is tele marketing and you do have to talk to people and help
them. But if you like to help people and help your self at the same
time then maybe it for you. Or maybe not. But you can move into a
management position and have your own office and your own business.
