| | "This Immortal" by Roger Zelazny. Recommended. Think it won the
Nebula one year in the sixties. A lot of Zelazny's books are
    about world-weary immortals, though.

| | Actually, DUNE won the Nebula that year. However, DUNE was tied
with THIS IMMORTAL (under its serial title of "And Call Me Conrad")
    for the Hugo.

BUT, that same year, Zelazny did win two Nebulas: Best Novella for
"He Who Shapes" (expanded into THE DREAM MASTER), tied with Brian
Aldiss' "The Saliva Tree", and Best Novelette for "The Doors of
His Face, the Lamps of His Mouth".

| | My favorite immortal character is Robert Hedrock, in the Weapon Shops of
Isher (one story title of a (too) small set of stories set in this
universe), by A.E. Van Vogt. Not that I disliked any of the other stories
listed here.

| | There are immortal characters in the movie Highlander. Their goal in life was
to seek each other out and try to chop each other's heads off. The last one
left gains enormous power.

I've often wondered about that (I've only seen the movie). But what was the
purpose of having all that power. Save man from himself ?

| | This is the latest Zelazny note, so this is where I'll begin.

someone I talked to said R.Z. had as trilogy called the RACE of
something or other. What the heck is this??

I thought I had most of them until I heard of this one???

Hi Russ, I think you may be referring to the
Alien Speedway series. Book 1 was Clypsis, Book
2 was Pitfall and I forget the name of book 3,
however, they were not written by Zelazny. I
believe he endorsed the books and wrote the
introduction or prologue or something. Not
Zelazny style, but I still found them good
reading. I believe there is a note in here about
                them somewhere.

                Cheers, Rob
