Netview is VERY VERY SLOW, just popping between the windows...
WNT server 3.51 SP5.
This is a HP Vectra XU 200mhz Pentium Pro
128 mb ram.
Not a domain server.
DNS not configured.
Page file size = 139-189Mb
CPU is no higher then 20% in use..
Autodiscovery has been turned off.
Bringing up netview, and going between screens takes MINUTES.
No other application experiencing any slowness problems.
In event viewer, error:
Nutcracker kernel could not be found. nckerlen.c 318
???
Here's the /usr/OV/log/pnvmsg_stderr.log file;

Is the user logged into a domain (even though they are not on a domain
controller)?
If so, this is a known problem, most likely related to the 'don't run
on a domain controller' problem, and is fixed in the next release.

I didn't know there was a "don't run on a domain controller" problem!!
I'll check into it . Thanks!

Cathy,
The 'don't run on a domain controller' problem is the reason I keep
asking you 'is the customer running on a domain controller', especially
in relation to performance issues. You answered this in the base note by
stating that this machine was 'not a domain server'.
This little tidbit [poor performance on a domain controller] is documented
in the FAQs. It's a tiny tidbit so it's easy to miss.
I didn't discover until last week that logging into a large domain, and
running NetView on that system while logged into the domain, would
also present a performance problem. This particular scenario does not
appear to be an issue with the next version of NetView on NT.
