474.0. "(Routing/Area Dynamic)" by CUJO::MEIER (Systems Engineering Resident...) Sat May 16 1987 17:49
First, this requested is posted here since I feel most
people (DECnet or VMS Development) really don't think
this would be helpful to most customers.

    	Request:
Anybody know NETACP well enough to determine if
there's any possble way to switch (dynamically)
    		from Routing IV, and Area.

    	Reason:
The ability to segment a given area from other
areas on a single LAN segment. Mostly for the
    		reason of security, probing.

    	Why software / Why not a LAN Brigde-100 ?

Mostly money, and LAN Bridge will be brought,
at the end of the year, either way.

What's wrong with shutting down DECnet and bringing it
    	backup?

I don't what to abort DECnet links on that node,
from other CPU's in the same area.

It's not that long to cycle DECnet !

True, but if you abort a link, you lose data.
The intent is to make the switch transparent to
    		user applications.

Thanks for your time... Let me know if you have an idea!
