	the answer, but ....

	why does a DCL command prefaced by & do what it does? for 
	example,
	
		$ &foo
		

	i'm using VMS 4.4

	well, i've glanced at the discussion... have you tried entering a command such as: $ &print fred.txt the discussion does not seem to cover what happens. jack

	It's a bug in V4.4 DCL - fixed in 4.5. Trev
