why not in the standard VAX notes location (NOTES$Library?) ?

			Oops!  Forgot to mention that!  On February 1st, the
		converted version of this file will be in

		    {CLOSET|VAXUUM}::NOTES$LIBRARY:HACKERS.NOTE

		Of course, you need only specify

		    CLOSET::HACKERS

		or

		    VAXUUM::HACKERS

		to get to it.

	Once this file is converted how do I set my UNSEEN to the
last note?  I can't seem to find any documentation on how to do
this.

Notes> SET SEEN /BEFORE=datetime

where 'datetime' is the time of the note you last read under the old notes
program.

This won't work on the cluster we are on...the system managers haven't installed
V.08 (or whatever the latest is) on the GENRAL cluster, (which NERMAL is
member of).

		Notes is a product now undergoing external field testing, while
		all the other NOTES programs are midnight hacks.

Can any of you hackers tell me how to run VAX Notes from my own area, until
(if) my system manager installs it?

Copy the save set into your area, then
	$ BACKUP notes008.a/SAVE dev:[dir]
    then in your login.com add these logicals:

    define	NOTES$MAIN	dev:[dir]notes$main.exe
    define	NOTES$SHARE	dev:[dir]notes$share.exe
    define	NPUSHR  	dev:[dir]npushr.exe
    define	TPU$CCTSHR	dev:[dir]npu$cctshr.exe
    define	TPUMSG	        dev:[dir]tpumsg.exe
    define	NOTES$  	dev:[dir]notes$.tpu$section
    define	NOTES$HELP	dev:[dir]notes$help.hlb

and do a SET COMMAND dev:[dir]NOTESDCL

Note that you will not be able to FORWARD or SEND.

re .10:  Thank you.  I figured out enough to do the BACKUP and trying to
run NOTES$MAIN, but that wasn't enough.  I can now use VAX notes.

With this, you'll be able to use FORWARD iff NOTES007 had been installed
before.   By the way, this represents the files you have to retain from the
saveset - you can delete all the rest.

    The conversion has failed due to a large number of screwed-
up records in this file.  I have brought it back in the old
VNOTES format because I think this file should be around to
announce Stan's presentation, dinner, and departure.
    If any NOTES hackers would like to lend a hand in finding
and destroying bad records, please get in touch with me.  I
want to get this file converted!
