| | Hi,

If you are using the NDIS2 OS/2 driver, then configure MTPS to use
Ethernet. The NDIS2 specification does not support FDDI, so our OS/2
FDDI driver emulates Ethernet up to the NDIS interface....

    Hope this helps!

I don't know whether the customer you're referring to is Tng Beng Chye, but if
so, I just recently replied to his question concerning the OS/2 ODI client
driver.
Basically, under OS/2 there are two drivers to choose from. The DEFEA.OS2
driver (as Don mentioned in .1) emulates Ethernet and Ethernet framing (64-1514
bytes). If you're using this driver, configure your SW and protocol stack as
if you're running over an Ethernet adapter. The DEFEA.SYS driver is an OS/2
ODI FDDI client driver that supports native FDDI framing and packet range.
This is in accordance to the Novell OS/2 ODI Specification. If you're using
this driver, configure your SW appropriately.
Hope this helps.

The DEFEA.SYS OS/2 ODI client driver conforms to the OS/2 ODI client driver
specification for FDDI adapters. The only two frame types supported under ODI
for FDDI are FDDI_802.2 and FDDI_SNAP. All production protocols that run on
FDDI use one or both of these frame types.
You should check your protocol stack documentation/vendor to see whether they
support FDDI OS/2 ODI client drivers. If so, they must accept one of the above
frame types. For example, TCP/IP mostly uses FDDI_SNAP while IPX can use
either FDDI_802.2 or FDDI_SNAP.

    Larry

Hi Stefani,
Sorry to bother u again, as I do not know
who to send to for DEC FDDI NIC support.
Anyway, today I hv tried to use ODINSUP.SYS
but the system claimed that DEFEA.SYS has
insufficient frames type supported when it
try to netbind.
As in the NET.CFG, I can only turn on
FDDI_802.2 & FDDI_SNAP, I am not sure
whether that's is the limitation.
Pls kindly adv whether u or your colleage has
any experience with DEC FDDI NIC install
in a OS/2 Warp 3 Server running both
IPX & IP protocol?
Thanks.
Brgds/Tng
