What about insurance? Is the land owner laible even if he's given
    you permission?

You could contact Cindy Brown in Upton, she's set up rides for
Mass Arab at Upton Forest. I also have the name of the Bay State Trail
Riders president, if you need it, send me mail.

Our club carries all the insurance - no landowner will be responsible
for anything - like I said, we have permisson from the land owners - I
just dont know if I have to tell the town/police - My club has allwasy
had trail rides at stateparks - we never had to inolve anyone except
    the park.

| 1951.3 | Check local By-Laws. | A1VAX::GUNN | I couldn't possibly comment | Thu Feb 09 1995 13:30 | 9 |
| | Some towns in Massachusetts have by-laws covering gatherings of N
people or "public" events. This varies from town to town. These by-laws
come about because the town has had some bad "experience" and found
they were unable to regulate such activities without a specific by-law.
The bad "experiences" are many and varied but I have never heard of a
trail ride coming under such regulation. In the town where I live,
Littleton, a lessee of a local stable building was holding bull fights
on the property and the town could not do anything about them until a
by-law was passed by Town Meeting.

Contact Paul or Annett Rodier...they worked with Tanheath and help
to set up the hunter paces that were always held in Berlin. I know now
thatthe hunter paces are off in Berlin due to someone letting their
horse go into the water for a drink and the MDC or who ever caught them
doing this and went to the group and revoked the permission to use the
    area.

But they could possibly tell you what they had to do to hold the rides
    in Berlin.

You could also just call the town hall or police dept. and ask for help
or who to contact and they will forward you on. It would probley be a
good idea for the police to know and possibly be safer to have the
police there at your road crossing...depending on how busy the road is
you are having the horses on.

good luck...will look forward to ridding your trail ride....
