    Moderator; I looked through existing notes on Hay and they didn't seem
    appropriate...
    
    I'm considering buying a hay elevator to move hay up into the loft of
    my barn.  I like a good workout and all, but I'm getting somewhat
    burned out from tossing hundreds of bales up by hand every few
    months...
    
    I know electric models exist - are there also PTO driven models
    attachable to tractors?
    
    Any experience out there with either?  Any ideas on price ranges I can
    expect and any specific models worth noting?

    We have a PTO driven hay elevator... my reccomendation is dont waste
    the money.  Granted ours is old, but I've seen the new ones and unless
    your loft is very low - it does not work.
    
    We have to balance the elevator on the bed of the truck for it to
    kinda work.. even then the hay falls off 1/2 way up..it's more of a
    pain then anything...you have to be at just the right angle...
    
    I'll stick to the old fashion way...manual!  or what we do is make
    a party out of it.. kinda like a painting party.. we have a hay
    party and we invite all my hubbys close muscle bound friends :-)

    Dear John,
    
    If you check around, you should be able to find elevators that are
    mounted on wheels and have a winch mechanism for adjusting the height
    and angle of the elevator.  A used elevator like this could cost you up
    to $500 dollars, but after putting 4000 bales of hay up over time, I
    only have good things to say about it.  Also, the unit I am familiar
    with has sheet metal guides all along it, so if a bale becomes
    unbalanced, it will still reach the top.  
    
    More importantly, I believe you are expecting this month.  How is the
    mare or are the mare and the foal doing?

    CONGRATULATIONS  on your new little filly!
    
    Anytime you're in the market for used foal equip, i.e, halters,
    blankets, let me know because my 7 week old filly is growing

    Ed, that sounds ideal.  I'll keep my eyes open.  I've just got too
    much to do to keep on the way I'm going.  
    
    Thanks Tina for the congrats on the new baby.  I put more details on
    it into my original foaling note 1841.  Mom and baby are doing great.

    I just priced a hay elevator at the Agway in Gardner.  He got the price
    from the John Deere dealer in Fitchburg.
    
    The elevator is $500. for a sixteen footer and the electric motor is 
    $250.

    Would the name of this JD dealer be "Padula Brothers"?
    I know they are not exactly *in* Fitchburg... just wondering
    where there might be another JD dealer.  We love their stuff!
    Every piece of yeard/farm equipment is a JD... Heck, even our
    mail box is a miniture JD tractr - all green and yellow!

    Really?  Near any Digital facility?  That way I can get the
    directions from VTX... not familiar with that neck of the 
    woods - at all.  It's a long drive from Temple Mountain
    (Wilton, NH) don't want to spend time *lost*  rather spend
    it shopping!
