| Hi lynda,
Those darn flies, My horses do not seem to have any problems with
flies around their eyes, yet, however I have noticed the other folks
at the stable putting on guards around their eyes, they look like net
sun glasses. The horses do not seemed bothered by them, they let the
owner put them on without fight and I have never noticed them trying to
rub them off. I also watched to verify the horse could see through
them clearly.
The horse looks like something from outer space, but it
keeps the flies away. I do not know what these glasses are called but
if you are interested maybe a tack shop can help you?

| Hi- we use the eye guard as referenced in #1, and it works great!!
They really do look like cretures from outer space, but where I
live the flies are everywhere!
Last year my horse had scratched the skin just below the eye. I
purchased this guard to keep the flies from irritating it during the
healing process. And it worked liked a charm! I wish I had purchased
it a long time ago.

| We have use tea before and it seems to work. We have gotten the loose
tea that is used for sun tea and put it in a cloth of some sort. Then
soak it in boiled water for about 5 minutes. Let it cool and dab it
around the eyes. It seems to work. I haven't tried it this year, the
tea leaves are getting hard to find. It is also good for runny eyes so
I have been told.

| One of my horses suffers with the flies, but, will not keep a fly fringe on,
she wanders off across the field and the minute we're out of site, pulls it
off!!
We have resorted to eye drops...

| Another trick to keep the flies away from your horse's eyes - SWAT.
It's that pink, petroleum based, ointment in the white plastic jar.
It's for minor wounds and if you put a thin smear of it under your
animal's eye (sort of like eye shadow only under the eye) it really
helps keep the flies off. And it's very attractive!

Another trick is to avoid piling the manure, which attracts the
flies in the first place. Hard to do in a big place, I know, but
it can make a big difference. That fly bait that is yellow granular
stuff and is activated when put in water works, but it is also deadly
poison, and it scares me. Farnham makes a roll on (looks like a roll
on deodorant) fly repellent that is good, because you can make glasses
on the horse with the fly repellent, and also go across the forehead,
around the ears, down the jawline and under the throatlatch...(you can
even sign your name on their neck! (; ) Mine stand very well for the
roll on as there is no spraying.....
SWAT....it looks so good, especially when accompanied by some bright
yellow Furox! (8 Then add some pale green aloe vera for the scuffs,
some white skin softener paste for the dry skin....and presto! A
Pychodelic horse! (8

I have tried lots of different thing and the best thing I have
come up with so far is AUTAN for bitting insects ...its a fly
repellent for us humans .....

| Carrying on from my last reply !
I forgot to say its a roll-on .. and its brilliant for getting in the ears
as my 2 suffer really bad with flys in their ears...
Its quite easy to apply under the eyes and that little bit inbetween the
front legs where those flys love to party @!..
