I watched the Chronicle entitled 'Inside the Horse Scene'. They did short
pieces on polo, foxhunting, auctions, ex-race horses turned into hunters,
interviewed Dover Sadderly, and a a piece on a handicap riding program.
I thought the only 2 good pieces were the foxhunting and the
handicap riding program. Some of the other pieces could have focused on
better examples in their fields. The polo pony looked like a rack of
bones to me. The person who rescued ex-race horses showed her young
students jumping without helmets.
I did enjoy the Dover sadderly interview, since they made a big deal out of
a person who bought her horses matching blankets. Ofcourse I think thats
perfectly normal!

| | I saw it , too. The piece of fox hunting made me want to go out
and get involved in it, they made it look like so much fun! I agree
with -1, though, about the polo and ex-race horse segments. The
polo pony they showed looked to be in sorry condition, and I was
appalled that a supposedly knowledgeable instructor had kids (or
anyone for that matter) jumping green horses with no hard hats.
And she gave the impression that ex-race horses are commonly
difficult and a problem to retrain, and not easily adaptable to their
new lives as pleasure/show horses. Most experienced horse people
know this is not the case. The handicapped piece was very touching,
    though!

I saw the Chronicle piece and I thought they did a very good job. Considering
the amount of time that they had to shoot it and produce it, I thought it
was very good. I think that the segment on the handicapped riding program would
make even non-horselovers cry :-)
I taped it if anyone wants to borrow it.
