    When I had a pinto years ago, I used to rub in cornstarch on the white
    areas, let it sit for a few, then brush it out. Seemed to work pretty
    well.
    
    I'm curious why the manufacturer would only give "technical"
    information to a vet. Seems like they should have to give it to any
    and all consumers who asked for it...what do they do if you call up
    and say you are a vet, check for references??
    

    
    
    	Well this may sound weird but...  I used to have an *all* white arab
    	and I used Ivory liquid on him!  Yes' the stuff you use on your dishs...
    	After all you eat off your dishes so this stuff is tested big
    	time...  I used to give two baths before each show and he came out
    	sparkling white each time!  I also use Joy dish liquid on my dog
    	to repel flys and it is very mild so I can give her a bath twice a
    	month so I don't have to worry about my house getting a doggie
    	smell to it...:-)

    Jhirmack Shampoo for gray hair, the one in the purple bottle and the
    shampoo is purple also...I've used this before for baths and for spot
    removal.  Just add water to a little shampoo in a spray bottle and you
    can do jus the dirty spots...
    
    My daughter picked this up a couple of years ago at 4-H, and since I
    use the shampoo  we decided to try it.
    
    I lilke the one about joy liquid for dogs...I'm going to try that one!!

    My appy's have large white blankets. I use regular hair shampoo
    when I wash them and a curry. 
    
    Ivory soap is also good. Although I have never used it on my horses,
    I do use it on my sheeps fleeces. It whitens the white fleeces really
    well and is not to harsh to hurt the wool. I also clean all my wool
    sweaters in it. Woolite is actually BAD for wool, but what does the 
    general public know. It is the sheep folks that learn all the secrets
    to preserve the wool products.
    
    

    I just thought....ORVAS (spelling) soap is suppose to be really good
    too.
    
    I know that is used by almost everyone that has to was their sheep for
    shows. they are really white after. And sheep are dirty animals with
    the stains.
    
    I think they sell it now at State Line Tack Shop, I have also seen it 
    in the local feed stores...Agway in Northboro, Farmers Exchange in
    Framingham.

    RE. ? quick silver.. i have used that for several years.. I question
    what brought that on???   did the vet do a histimine level to make sure 
    it was allergic reaction (sounds like it) ... the purple people
    shampoo i used to use (and I used it on my horse ) was shiimering
    lights....
    
    did you use fly spary before or after the bath??

    re.0 the purple people shampoo is simialar but not the same
    as the horse product.. I found one cheaper thats why i went with it..

    Do you rub in corn starch, or apply it by a dusting?  What did you
    brush it out with...a stiff or soft brush?

    The only reason we could figure about only my vet getting this information
    is maybe they were afraid of someone getting company secrets?  The more
    I spoke with the man, the more info he'd give me.....maybe he wants 
    some history on Jesse and the reaction?  I'll ask my vet when she gets back
    to me.

    I think I'll try the Ivory, I know of other folks using Dawn on their
    Cats, so I thought about trying that one.

    Thanks for the suggestion....but I think I'll stay away from this one.
    The manufacturer told me that the people shampoo may be harsher....as
    horses have delicate skin.  He also told me that the base of Quic Silver
    is like the base of other horse shampoos, and that they add the purple 
    stuff for the hilights.....which is probably what she was allergic too.

    My instructor uses quic Silver on her stock.......my mare is just more
    sensitive to it (she's very sensitive to bugs and fly sprays).  The vet 
    didn't do any histimine levels, as she felt it was an unnecessary expense 
    at the time, and knowing the history, she felt sure it was a reaction to the
    shampoo.  The first reaction happened while at a show in Oneco, and we 
    used everything.  THis reaction was real bad.....her legs were so swollen, 
    and she had welts all over her chest and withers....not a pretty sight.  
    Most of the exhibitors in our isle were quite concerned.
    
    saturday, I just used the shampoo, because we didn't know what caused
    the reaction.....and some show sheen, and I use it all the time to 
    keep manure stains at a minimum...but no fly spray.

    Because of the events, my vet is 99% sure it was the shampoo.     
    
    My friend is a hairdresser and gets the shimmering lights shampoo
    in the industrial size containters......she has 3 or 4 paints.  The
    manufacturer told me that the products were similar, but the horse
    version is milder that the people version......and I should probably
    keep away from it.  My friend has had no problems with it.

    I always rubbed the corn starch in, but only lightly, then brushed it
    out with a good stiff brush, in the direction of the hair.

    I think Orvus is a carpet shampoo...  It is quite the rage right now.
    
    I always use Ivory liquid on my horse.  I like the way it works.  We
    use Joy at the dog grooming shop and it also KILLS fleas.  We've been
    using it for a few years and have never had any problems (we only use
    it on dogs, not cats).
    
    We have a horse at our barn who is very sensitive and had an allergic
    reaction two weeks ago.  I never saw anything like it in my life!  She
    looked like the elephant man.  Her nostrils and eyes were swollen to at
    least twice their normal size and she had hundreds for hives all over
    her body.  She also had pulmonary edema and she would have died if no
    one noticed her when they did.  
    
    The vet thinks it was the hay.  Two weeks before that she had a bath
    with a little bit of absorbine in it and her skin peeled off for about
    a week after that.
    
    Hope you find something you can use and you like.

    With my black/white Paint mare having four white legs we struggled with 
    the problem of making them white for every show. The best solution we
    found was to wash with Corvis - a cattle shampoo - then wash with
    Absorbine Superpoo. While her legs are drying I generously apply Straight
    Arrow Wet Sheen. This will prevent stains and morning re-washing. Hope this
    helps.

When the legs are dry try putting some baby powder on them (rub it in) and 
this will add to thw whiteness
