I just got a pony colt gelded last Saturday. My question is how
long will it take before he stops trying to mount all of my other
horses. He driving me crazy!! We brought him to our place for the
first time right after the surgery. The vet said he would be swollen
and uncomfortable for a day or two, I don't think he has noticed
it happened yet. He is ten months old and has been running around
just like any other baby until he sees another horse. My mares are
acting just as bad towards him though they are 15 hands and he is
10 hands.

I've had two horses gelded over the last year, one calmed down into
the gelding mode in about two weeks. The other horse an Arab took
almost three months before he really settled down. I had the vet
come out and look at him abouth a month after the gelding because
I thought something must be wrong, every thing was fine. The vet
said that every horse is different and sometimes it just takes time.

I had my colt gelded last March at 10 months also. I think it takes
at least 4 weeks for the hormones to change, but as mentioned in
the last note each horse's system is different and it could take
longer but do expect a minimum of 4 weeks.
Good luck!!! He will calm down soon.....

Well after 3 weeks he is a totally different pony. The last attempt
to mount anything he made was my 24 year old gelding, who explained
with his back feet the folly of that idea. His biting has just about
stopped completely since I bit him back. Not too tasty but he got
the message! Now we can start leading training without getting my
hand taken off.
