You should automatically be sent a renewal form in the mail (unless
you have moved and left no forwarding address).

I forgot to add - I think the renewal form comes sometime
around the Feb/Mar time frame. I've worried every year that I've
been forgotten, and then, *poof*, it shows up in the mail.

Kathy is right, I am a licensed instructor too and I already
received my renewal. They send them out automatically to
    those already licensed.

Pat Rule got married and moved to Florida. Her position is
available as Director of Riding Instructors and Stables. Any
    one interested??

They are very short handed at the office since Pat left but I
am sure they will be sending out your renewal soon. If you
haven't received it by mid February just give them a call. Or
you may want to send them the 15$ check anyway with a note indicating
that you hadn't received the renewal info but wanted them to know
that you were still interested in keeping your license active.

I want to apply for my Mass instructor's license. I know there's an
earlier note about renewing, but I don't have one in the first place.
    Who should I call?

    thanks
    Amy

The first thing to do is call the Department of Food and
Agriculture, Division of Animal Health. They will send you an
application. The application contains a list of the requirements
and some of the information you will be required to take an exam
    on.

Be prepared to submit a detailed resume of your experience in
horsemanship.... Your whole life. You will also need two letters
of recommendation from licensed riding instructors in regards to
your riding skills. Then (if there is a replacement yet) you will
have an interview with the supervisor of riding academies. After
you send in your application they will schedule an exam for you.
This is a written exam... About 15 pages, multiple choice, fill
    ins and matching.

Since my exam the Supervisor of Riding Academies has left
and last I heard not been replaced yet due to a hiring freeze.
They do have candidates ready though.

My best advice would be to call the Dept of Food and Agriculture.
It is in Govt Center in the Leverett Saltonstall building. I'll
get the address and submit it tomorrow BUT I had to re-issue
a few things and send them certified because they never got them.

...... Also Make sure the trainers who write your letters
of recommendation send them certified too.

    		Good Luck !!! M

| | For the recommendations -

Do these need to be from Mass. Instructors? In other words,
what about folks relocating from outside the state?

| 612.9 | seems most likely | CARTUN::MISTOVICH |  | Wed Apr 11 1990 09:15 | 4 |
| | Used to be that they had to be Mass-licensed instructors. My guess is
that that still would hold true.
