| 279.1 | vet wrap? and the other stuff... | PIXEL::DANI |  | Wed May 27 1987 09:05 | 14 |

    Susan,

I've seen people wrap their stirrups with the stuff they often
wrap bits with. Can't remember the name (doesn't that figure?)
I'm sure one of the other readers will be able to come up with it...

Vet wrap may be less expensive and serve the same purpose. It
sticks to itself as does the stuff with the name I can't remember.

I'd like to hear what you find that works!

You could try a nonslip sticker, most shoestores sell them, I
put them on all my stirrups for younger riders, little feet tend
to slip out of bigger stirrups especially when wearing slippery
jodphur boots. I can't remember exactly what they're called,
but they just stick on and you can peel them off easily, they
don't last that long, but are cheap enough to buy a bunch of
    them.

I think the sticky stuff you are referring to is Elastoplas (sp?)

    re: .1,.3,.4
	Could also be Latex.
Susan, Latex is another thing to try. Also Vet-Wrap. Some
eventers use the Latex. (available in most grain stores and tack
shops. Comes in a green box with reddish writing for I think about
     $1.50)

    	HI

Thanks fer all the great ideas!

Do you think someplace like State Line Tack Shop would have
    	items like the ones mentioned?

I like the idea of the Latex... sounds rubbery and sounds like
it wouldn't come off if it got wet. I hate to think of it,
but IF I come across a stream (I kain't swim!) that is kinda
deep - I don't want to look like a version of "The Mummy Unwrapped"
if you know what I mean.

I have some of the VET-Wrap... it is still in the package -
do you think it would stay together if wet? I carry it all
the time and I have never had to use it yet.

I never heard of Sure Grip stickers... I will look into those
too.... although it sounds like they may not "do wet".

    	MANY THANKS!

    	Susan

Suregrips (?) are for the bottom of shoes, so you don't slip
on carpets or waxed floors, I know if you put them on and
immediately use them, they don't "do wet", but if they sat for
    awhile, they should be ok.

    Re: .6
	Susan,
I _know_ State Line has the Latex cuz that's where I got my
last box/roll. It's probably your best bet as far as prolonged
stickiness is concerned. The Vet Wrap I fell is probably better for
'emergency conditions', like when you're out of Latex and you
haven't gotten any more yet. I don't think it's quite as sticky. It
(the Vet Wrap) should stay wrapped even if it gets wet - some
people use it over their horses boots in eventing to keep buckle
straps from being broken - and those horses go splashing through
     water.

Well, I FINALLY got the Latex.... a friend of mine went to
State Line and picked it up. It works SUPER and I highly
recommend it to anyone! I even built up one side of my stirrup
to level out my foot with it. It is very sticky and very
rubbery - hence no slipping foot.

    	Good Stuff!
    	Susan
