        Well I'm still around. Sometimes.

    I have decided to take the summer up in Northern NH and would like to
    extend an open invitation to anyone to stop off and visit with me and
    if you care to motivate me you can try to get me to go out and ride 
    with you. I have my road bike there (and the C-dale set up for the
    road).

    I'll be spending the summer and maybe the fall in a campground in 
    Twin Mountain, NH.
    It is located just to the right of the Rt. 3 and Rt. 302 intersection.  
    Living Waters Campground is the name.  It is a good, quiet, safe place
    for me to spend the summer and do some more recovery.

    It is just a few miles from Bretton Woods and about 10 miles from the
    base of the cog rail on Mt. Washington.  What a climb that is.  Maybe
    I'll be more in shape by August when I get to spend a week down in
    Gardner MA and can climb that little hill about 10 miles south of the
    camp I'll be staying at there.

    Oh, and the campground in Twin Mountain is about 10 miles from the bike
    path that goes trough the Franconia notch (the northern end, so it is
    down hill from there).  A good day ride down to the Flume and back.

    I figure the ride up to and through Crawford notch and back to Lincoln
    through Bear Notch will be the best ride.  It's a good thing that there 
    are lots of down hills after the up hills.  And scenery. And a quiet 
    place to rest and recover after it is over.

    all of the loops up there are awesome, from where you will be Kinsman,
    The Kanc, Bear and Crowfor di sa nice loop, as well as using the
    Franconia shortcut.  Going East You can do either the Crawford-Pinkham
    loop or Crawford-Evans, or Pinkham-Evans, I suppose I'd even get up the
    gumption to go through Grantham Notch and keep on going to (is it?)
    Errol.  There are only about 5 towns in NH that I've never ridden in
    and that's one of them.
    
    Then again you are only a short ride from the Canadian border, can
    probably get there in under 60 miles, too.

    I second Ed's comment.  We used to have a USCF 100-miler (and then some
    in '79 -- 130 miles!) that used many of these climbs.  Most awesome is
    the Kanc, where if you do it west to east, you're going up for a solid 10
    miles.  The grade isn't double digit, but it wears on you.  Going down
    is something else (over 50mph, solo -- faster in a group)

I'll be vacationing up in the North Conway area, and would like to do a ride or 
two.  Are there any good hills/mountain routes close to the downtown area?  A 
mountain road would be great, but I want to keep the ride ~ 20ish miles since my 
wife won't look too kindly on me disapearing for much longer than that during 
vacation.

I'll be going to NH on monday, 8/28.

    There a countless areas to ride in the N.Conway area everything
    from rolling, flats, mountain paved and unpaved.   A couple of
    rides come to mind.
    
    	Hurricane Mt Road off of RT16 across from the scenic rest area
    	just north of North Conway center.  (Paved, twisting and very
        steep.)
    
    	Rte 16 to Rte 302West to Bartlet ctr. then BearNotch Road
    	to the Kanc (rte 112) left back toward Conway.  At the junction
    	of 112 & 16 take a left toward Conway.   Then another left at the
    	working set of lights onto Washington Street.   Proceed for about
    	1/2 - 3/4 mile and fork left onto Westside Rd.  There are a couple
    	of alternatives along Westside Rd. that you can use to either
    	shorten the route back to N. Conway or stay on Westside until it
    	ends at rte 302 in the town of Glen, (about 1mi west of jct 16/302)
    		(I think of this as paved rolling with some strong hills)
    
    There are certainly other noters with different routes and thoughts.
