| | Yeah, I heard you guys had a 70 mph tail wind.

| | It was a bummer but my friend and I went riding down to to Conway with
a side trip up to the Black Mt. ski area. I remember that it was
a fabulous day and sweating profusely going up the hills and amazed
at how the weather could be so bad just a few miles away!
I'll try again though.

| | There's enough switchback on Mt. Washington so what's a tailwind for
a while tends to become a headwind someplace later on the course. I
look back with fondness on '79 -- warm, sunny, and 1:12 (after 130-mile
road race the day before -- Mt. Washington used to be a great 2-day
    event).

| | Boy! You can tell you havn't been there for a while! :-)

Actually, the road changes directions maybe 5 times. In between the
corners you can be looking at long straight distances.

Well Justin, you know what they say is the first to go with age... :-)

BTW, you'd probably need a 50mph tailwind to make a difference on that
    ride anyway.

| | maybe you had you're head down too much?

You really think it changes direction only 5 times?

| | most changes are extermely subtle (if you really want to get
    technical).

how do i know (you ask)? i'm looking at an aerial photograph of the
Auto Road (poster size) on the wall in my office.

    forgery, maybe? :-)

| | I only have some memories, like, "Yeah, here's that bend to the right
where I had to dismount for some idiot back in '83 and it was damned
tough to get back into the clips because ... bend to the right, 12%
incline for 500-800' with 90 (?) bend to the left another 12% for
another .10 mi or so and what was nearly a switchback with a little bit
of a breather. I think the course looks like it has lots of bends when
it's up close and personal and fewer in a photo or in the model.

| | yeah, you're prolly right. i ran into the same problem one year. i had
to walk to one of the car "turn-outs" to re-mount the bike.

| | I practiced getting on my bike on the steepest section of Miller St.
park in NH. I was thinking of buying SPD pedals (for other
    reasons) but heard they are
even harder to mount with than regular road pedal systems.

have to convince the rest of my body. I think I can, I think I can,
